Chapter 900: Cruel Truth



"W-what... did you just say?"

Adonis had been so wrapped up in all his thoughts regarding his plans for the future- especially how they would change now that Rey and Lucielle could potentially be joining him.

This was, by no means, a bad thing.

However, adding two others would undoubtedly make things more complicated. Still, if they were up for the task, Adonis was more than happy to have them on this journey as allies to aid him on the quest to save the world.

All that mattered was that they completed the mission-no matter what!

"There is no such thing as regression, Adonis!" Rey hammered his words into his head once again. "You're not a regressor, at least... not in the real sense of the word. And... that Magic Circle isn't for regression."

"What are you sayi-?"

"I can see everything with my [Perfect Divine Appraisal], Adonis... and I see it perfectly now." He pointed at the Magic Circle.

"That thing is meant to travel worlds, not send you to the past."

"W-wha-?!"

"You wouldn't be regressing." Rey sighed. "You'd just be jumping ship to a new world."

Those words were mind shattering, especially coming from Rey.

But, that didn't make them true.

"You're wrong! I've regressed before! I have!" Adonis yelled out, taking a step back, so he could be much closer to the Magic Circle.

"You didn't truly regress..."

"No! I did! I di-!"

"I CAN SEE YOUR STATUS WINDOW, ADONIS!" Rey yelled out, his voice nearly sounding like a behemoth that would swallow him whole.

"You're not a Regressor... you're a Transmigrator."

Rey's bright eyes narrowed as he looked at all the details that used to be full of glitches. They were no longer that way.

'I don't know what has changed...' He thought to myself. 'Could it be that my assimilation with the System has advanced? Or maybe it's because we're in the Chamber of Ancients.'

It didn't matter what the case was.

What mattered at the current moment was the truth.

"If you leave with that Magic Circle, you'll be bailing on us, Adonis." Rey said, his fist tightly clenched.

Adonis shook his head vehemently.

"No! No, you're wrong!"

Rey was... no, he HAD TO BE wrong!

'Everything I experienced in this world also happened in that last world. The only reason things became different is due to the Dragonfly effect. Because I changed things, the future also changed significantly...'

That was it!

"The Oracle told me, Adonis... that this world is like a linear story." Rey continued speaking, though Adonis closed his ears, not wanting to hear any of it.

"There is no way to 'return' to the past and change the present or future. It's just something that flows... like a pre-set narrative."

"No..."

"I still don't completely understand, but I know what I'm seeing, Adonis. You don't want to do this... to leave this world and your friends. To abandon your-"

"YOU'RE NOT MY FRIENDS!" Adonis screamed out in response. "If what you're saying is true, then you're not my friends and this is not my world! You're not the Rey Skylar I knew and loved, and you're not the Lucielle I respected and adored."

If he was nothing more than a Transmigrator, then... his world truly died and he had been too

busy saving another one.

"No... that can't be." Adonis couldn't just accept that.

He had to reject Rey's proposition.

"But it's the tru-"

"You mean to tell me that there is a world out there that is completely similar to ours? What next? Infinite realities? I regressed and became a baby, Rey! I lived an entire life on Earth before getting Transmigrated into another world like all of you."

He was indeed a Transmigrator... but he was also a Regressor.

How else could it be explained?

"I don't know all of the details myself, Adonis. But... you need to step away from that Magic Circle and let us talk about this more reasonably."

"What...?"

"I mean it, Adonis." Rey began to walk closer to the stupefied Hero. "Let's calmly discuss

this."

"Yeah... no... I don't know... I... why are you even here? What are you two doing here in the first place? Did you follow me? You followed me, only to stop me at this point?"

"No, that's not it." Rey said, hesitant to spill out the rest.

However, he decided to say his own side of the story, even if only out of goodwill towards one

of the few people he called friend.

"I actually-

"We're creating a portal that leads back to Earth for those who want to return." Lucielle beat him to it, summarizing everything as quickly as she possibly could.

"What?"

"Y-yeah, that's pretty much it."

"So... after accusing me of bailing on this world, you were planning to do the same?!" Adonis

gritted his teeth and took another step towards the Magic Circle.

"No!" Rey frantically responded. "The gateway is for Alicia! Alicia and anyone else

who doesn't want to stay here anymore and want to return to their normal life."

"You hypocrite!"

"I'm not! I know you want to save this world, Adonis! I do too." Rey tried to take a step

forward, but that only pushed the Hero away. "We can do this together, Adonis!"

"No..."

"It might be too late for your world, but would you really let this world die?"

"This is my world, Rey! And once I regress, I'll save everyone!"

"No..." Rey shook his head and sighed. "... You won't be saving anyone here, Adonis."

"I wi-"

"You'll just be running away."

At this point, Rey's pleading eyes and frantically desperate tone faded.

Replacing them was a cold expression.

He had a stiff face, with calculating eyes and a perfectly stoic demeanor-almost as if he had

lost all the emotions he had been displaying earlier.

"Adonis, I'll only say this once-stop what you're doing right now."

"You know I can't do that, Rey..." Adonis took one final step into the Magic Circle, now finding

himself at its very center.

"I have to-"

~WHOOOSH!~

Within the blink of an eye, Rey vanished from his position--using nothing but raw speed-

and appeared right in front of Adonis. He swiftly grabbed him by the face, launching him

away from the Circle before the latter could offer even the tiniest form of resistance.

In no time at all-

~THUD!~

-Adonis crashed on the incredibly sturdy ground, grunting and groaning as Rey stood on top

of him with his cool gaze.

"I told you... I'd only say it once."
