Pain.

Excruciating pain.

Alex's eyelids twitched slightly, and he suddenly gasped, followed by a sharp, fiery pain surging up his back.

Before Alex could fully acclimate to this new body, the intense pain already struck his nerves first. His confused mind and spirit collided with the body, causing the entire body to convulse.

Strictly speaking, the 'pain' was felt by the body, and Alex didn't experience any actual physical harm. However, he could clearly sense the body was slowly deteriorating.

'This is bad.'

Alex realized this was probably due to the incompatibility of his energy with this world. Of course, the main reason might be that this body was simply 'too weak.'

A regular student could hardly withstand the existence of something as terrifying as Alex, a being comparable to an outer god. Forcing his soul into this fragile body could only result in both his body and soul being destroyed.

There was no time to waste. Alex knew he had to come up with a solution quickly, or else the body he had so painstakingly acquired would be torn apart by his energy.

'Energy compatibility, energy compatibility... What is this world's power system? Vought Group, Compound V, biochemical modifications, genetic mutations...'

A cold glint flashed in Alex's eyes.

"Yes, this is it."

Genetic mutations.

All the extraordinary beings in this world were the result of genetic mutations caused by Compound V. In a certain sense, this world's power system was almost identical to that of mutants and inhumans.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Both were the product of genetic mutations, both were modified by certain entities through biological experiments.

When the methods that enabled heroes to gain superpowers turned into their nightmares, what was the difference between this universe and the ruined universe that Pietro came from?

Alex felt blood veins appearing on the surface of the skin, and he knew there was no time for him to lament. If he wanted to keep this body alive in this universe, he had to take action.

With that thought, Alex immediately began to adjust his magical energy, merging all sorts of powers—demons, angels, divine forces, magic—into abstract energy.

To better fit with this world, Alex forcefully scattered his magical energy and divided it into fragments of power.

With the help of abstract magic, each fragment was transformed into a card resembling a playing card.

However, unlike traditional playing cards, these cards bore the images of various superheroes.

Opening his eyes again, the body was completely restored to its original form—no blood veins, no wounds, not even the torn clothes were left, now fully repaired.

Looking at his hands, Alex exerted a little force, and sure enough, this body was as fragile as he had imagined, probably even weaker than the body he had before learning magic.

To be fair, before Alex came to the Ruin Universe, he had always been disciplined about his fitness. This body, perhaps because it belonged to a student, felt thin and small.

As Alex blinked, contemplating his new body, suddenly, a deafening explosion sounded from outside the room, shattering the warehouse windows.

Before he could react, Alex looked confusedly in the direction of the sound.

It was then that he realized—he still hadn't escaped from danger. The original owner of this body had died in the midst of this 'hero' versus 'criminal' war.

The Eagle had completely lost his combat ability. Without the sturdy physique of other superhumans, it was impossible for him to take on a group of armed thugs with his bare hands.

In a situation where many civilians were being killed, Vought Group would certainly not sit idly by.

Of course, they didn't care about the lives of civilians, but the problem was that if this affected the public's trust in superheroes, it could cause their stock prices to plummet. And that, of course, would mean a loss of real money.

It is foreseeable that the Eagle will inevitably be eliminated by Vought, even though he was once a top-tier star or hero in his own right. But now, after such a scandal, being sidelined will be his only way out.

As for the ordinary people who died in this disaster, who would care?

Vought Group's legal department and professional teams will thoroughly handle everything. Not only will they silence the families of the victims, but even this accident won't make it to tonight's evening news.

Alex's ears twitched slightly as he silently walked to the warehouse door.

The scene outside could be described as a complete mess, with blood and bodies everywhere. In the distance, several armed thugs continued firing in all directions, seemingly terrified by something.

Vought's reinforcements had arrived.

Squinting his eyes, Alex vaguely saw a blue figure streaking across the scene. The next moment, a thug instantly disappeared, only to reappear moments later, crashing heavily into the wall.

The immense force and impact caused his body to explode against the wall like a bursting firework, spraying foul-smelling blood across the wall, along with hair and muscle tissue that slowly dripped down.

'...'

Alex quietly closed the door and sighed.

When he saw that blue figure, Alex immediately recognized the person. If he remembered correctly, that should be A-Train of Vought's Super Seven.

This guy was modeled after the Flash, one of the Justice League's seven main heroes from DC. However, his actual combat ability was nowhere near as powerful as the Flash's.

Alex had seen the Flash before. Whether it was in the Flashpoint universe where Kara resided, or the Apokolips War universe, Alex had seen versions of the Flash from other worlds.

However, he had never witnessed the Flash engage in such a bloody battle. Barry Allen, when fighting villains, was always 'careful' to avoid accidentally dismembering them.

Though A-Train might not be as fast as the Flash, with his current combat power, slaughtering these ordinary people would be no different from squashing a bug.

Clearly capable of subduing them, but instead, he chose to kill them outright, in such a brutal manner. Alex couldn't help but reconsider the mental state of the superhumans in this universe.

It seemed these guys weren't any more rational than President X.

With a flick of his wrist, a purple playing card appeared at Alex's fingertips. On the card was a girl in a green, seductive outfit, smiling confidently.

Notably, the girl's skin wasn't the normal color of Earth's humans, but a near-purple hue. On her forehead was a diamond-shaped gem.

The card emitted a faint glow, and the space in front of Alex immediately began to warp. Brilliant purple energy moved erratically, and the entire space began to tear apart in a fantastical way.

In less than three seconds, a trembling but gradually stabilizing portal appeared before Alex.

Alex observed the portal closely. It was completely different from the teleportation techniques he had used before. He realized this portal was far more unstable and dangerous than what he was used to.

On the other side of the portal was a small rental apartment, messy with clothes and pants scattered around, alongside a pile of discarded take-out boxes.

After a brief pause, Alex stepped through. Once he fully entered the other space, the portal suddenly contracted, and the distorted space returned to its normal state.

The entire warehouse fell silent, with only collapsed cargo and broken glass remaining. There was nothing else.

Even the blood that had previously covered the floor had vanished.
