Chapter 287 Old Man
Chapter 287 Old Man
Jake looked at the old man carefully.
He was wearing black robes with golden patterns flowing on them with a rich glow. He had a full head of gray hair and a confident stature.
As for the cane that he was leaning on, even that felt like it was more than just a normal cane. It was made of wood, but it shone in the light.
Jake didn't mince any words.
"Who are you? What do you know about the emporium?" He asked, not even attempting to sheathe his sword.
"Put the toy away, little boy, before you hurt yourself." The old man shook his head and chuckled.
"Do you want to go to the emporium or not?" He asked.
Jake paused for a second.
"He knows what the emporium is. And he is clearly an NPC. I'm sure that no one else knows where to look, and maybe he is the only one who can tell me where it is. Whatever, it is just an F ranked mission, there shouldn't be any danger here." Thoughts raced in his head as Jake tried to make a decision.
"You think too much, child. So then, why are you looking for the emporium?" The old man asked.
Jake turned around and looked at the giant hall that they were in front of.
This wasn't the place to be talking about his class. He didn't want anyone to know, and even if these people were degenerates, walls had ears.
"Haha. Follow me." The old man seemed to be able to read his mind, and he turned around.
Jake quickly put his sword away after finally making a decision and he caught up to the man in a second.
"Where is the emporium, senior?" Jake asked with a smile on his face, trying to be as nice as he could.
"The emporium. It has been forever since people actually asked for it." The old man sighed as he looked up straight at the bright sun.
Through the thin slits that the old man called his eyes, he stared straight at the sun without looking away.
"It begs the question. How did you ever hear about it?" He looked down at Jake now, his eyes staring at Jake's.
Finally, Jake could see what the old man's eyes really looked like. They were wide open, and the pitch black eyes within had no depth at all.
"Someone told me that I had to go to the emporium… to learn about something." Jake said after a small pause.
He wasn't sure whether or not he could reveal to these NPCs about the knights of sin part of the equation.
Jake shot down the idea from his head almost immediately. This class clearly had a negative connotation somewhere here, and when he was this close to the Evil Lands, he didn't want to make any careless mistakes.
"Hmmmm… I wonder who told you to come to the emporium. But all of that will be clarified when we get there." The old man smiled as he stopped in front of a giant piece of rubble.
"You came here a few thousand years too late, unfortunately. The Emporium was destroyed in the fight between the gods. Not much was spared, if you look around." The old man sighed and shook his head.
"So then, why don't you tell me who told you about this emporium?" he asked.
Jake paused as he looked at the rubble in front of him.
It was a giant plot of land, and there were a few pillars of sand stone still standing. But that was all there was.
"It's broken?" He murmured as he tapped onto his quest again.
[Class Quest: Proceed to the Ruined Emporium in Melody
Quest Difficulty - F
Quest Time Limit - None]
"No, the quest is still active. It clearly says the Ruined Emporium. So this is the place." Jake shook his head and started walking forward.
"You are going in? Into that pile of rubbish?" The old man chuckled as reached forward to stop Jake.
Jake flinched as he quickly evaded the old man instinctively. He then started walking forward again. There was something in front of him. He knew it.
The old man sighed and suddenly, his eyes changed. They went from carefree to completely serious.
"I'm sorry, young man. But if you want to go in, then you need to give me a good reason. Or I will stop being so polite." The old man's voice suddenly grew.
Jake stopped and looked behind him.
For a brief moment, he was reminded of the fear that the bald man had shown toward the old man.
"He is still dangerous. You need to answer to him, clearly, Jake." Jake told himself as he smiled at the old man.
"Forgive me, senior. How do I explain this. I have been told that my inheritance is in the emporium. Another person who has the same inheritance as I do told me that everything I need to know is here." Jake said slowly and carefully.
"Your inheritance? What did you inherit? And from whom? The emporium is not open for everyone. This place is a sacred place in Melody. One that not everyone can just walk into." The old man shook his head and said coldly.
"Tell me truthfully. Who are you? And why have you come here?" He tapped his cane on the ground with force.
Jake sighed and shook his head.
"I guess I can't do anything else." He shrugged.
"I am here because I heard that I would learn more about the Knights of Sin here." Jake said with a low voice so that only the old man could hear.
And the moment the old man did, his eyes trembled.
All of a sudden, the old man vanished, and in his place, was just an after image.
Jake felt a sharp wind behind him.
"Where did you hear that? Who told you about the order of sin?!" A raspy voice came out.
