Chapter 95

Chapter 95 - Annihilation of Yama

In a remote village nestled deep within the Plyburg Hills, over a hundred young men clad in black patrolled back and forth, guns in hand.

Without witnessing it firsthand, one would find it hard to believe that such a military base existed in Ubliasia.

Suddenly, the roar of engines filled the air as three armed helicopters advanced rapidly towards the village in formation.

“Enemy attack!”

“Run for it!”

“Get to the bunker!”

The armed young men were acutely aware of the helicopters' firepower and wasted no time sprinting for the safety of the bunker.

In an instant, laser cannons erupted, transforming the village into a chaotic battlefield.

One after another, the young men in black, unable to evade the onslaught, fell dead. Despite their training, they stood no chance against the relentless artillery fire.

Then, rockets rained down on the bunker, engulfing it in flames.

As the bunker burned, special forces soldiers swiftly rappelled down from above. They quickly sought out strategic positions from which to snipe.

These soldiers refrained from charging into the inferno, for their mission was solely to target the enemy from a distance.

Meanwhile, silhouettes dashed into the flames with astonishing speed.

“They're incredibly fast.”

“I can't lock onto the targets.”

“It's no wonder we were ordered to lay down such heavy fire.”

“Which elite unit do they belong to?”

Amidst the chatter of the special forces, Ye Hao had already plunged into the blaze. Without hesitation, he activated his X-ray Vision.

In an instant, Ye Hao spotted dozens of assassins lurking behind makeshift cover.

“There are assassins behind these covers,” Yang Mo announced, scooping up a handful of pebbles and scattering them towards one of the covers. The pebbles split off in several directions, penetrating the cover.

Members of the Martial Arts Bureau who had accompanied Ye Hao glanced at him in astonishment.

They were clueless as to how Ye Hao had detected the assassins behind the covers.

However, they had been instructed by Shao Hua to follow Ye Hao's lead.

As they surged forward, they confirmed that assassins were indeed hiding behind each cover.

Caught unprepared, the assassins were swiftly eliminated.

At that moment, Ye Hao alone made his way toward the back of the bunker.

Yama had been entrenched in this location for years. It was highly likely that a tunnel lay hidden there.

Upon seeing the military helicopters deployed, the upper echelon of the Yama organization realized that their chances of survival were slim if they stayed. They immediately opted to flee. Yet, they couldn't outrun Ye Hao.

In no time, Ye Hao had caught up with the assassins. With a powerful grasp, he tore chunks of debris from a solid wall, which fell into his hands. He hurled the fragments with such force that they struck with an impact and penetrating power far greater than bullets, piercing the chests of the fleeing assassins. The Yama leader was not spared either.

Ye Hao approached the wounded leader of the Yama organization and demanded, “Tell me, who hired you to assassinate Lin Rou'er?”

“Lin Rou'er?” The Yama leader was taken aback.

“Answer my question,” Ye Hao insisted coldly.

“All my twenty years of hard work have been ruined. Do you really think I would reveal our employer?” the leader retorted.

“If you talk, I might spare your life.”

“Just kill me.”

“You've got guts,” Ye Hao remarked. At that moment, he noticed black blood oozing from the Yama leader's mouth. The surviving assassins were bleeding the same dark blood.

Shortly after, several members of the Martial Arts Bureau arrived on the scene.

“Search the area for any clues,” Ye Hao ordered sternly. “I need to find out who's behind the attack on Lin Rou'er.”

“The Yama's intelligence network initiated a self-destruct sequence immediately.”

“So, you've obtained no information at all?”

“We've captured a few of the assassins and hope to extract some information from them,” they replied.

Ye Hao shook his head slightly. The lower-level assassins wouldn't have knowledge of such matters, and those who did had already taken their own lives. The trail had gone cold.

”We'll have to proceed slowly,” Ye Hao resolved internally.

Ye Hao returned to Glento the following day. Arriving at Blossomfall Chateau by taxi, he was greeted by Xiao Ming at the entrance.

“You're right on time,” said Ye Hao, who had summoned Xiao Ming.

“Would I dare not to come when you call?” Xiao Ming responded with a grin.

Before Ye Hao could reply, he noticed something astonishing. “You've reached the second layer of Body Refining!”

“I was already on the verge of breaking through to the first layer of Body Refining. So, breaking through to the second layer shouldn't be that surprising, right?” Xiao Ming didn't see it as anything special.

“You're too cocky.” It's incredibly challenging for a martial arts cultivator to reach the Innate Realm, yet Xiao Ming had done so with ease.

“Fine, now that you've made your breakthrough, do you have a way to handle the Nightmare Incarnate?”

“I do.” Xiao Ming produced a golden rune paper from his pocket and instructed, “Place this rune paper on Tang Pianpian's forehead when she falls asleep tonight. The moment the Nightmare Incarnate emerges, it will be destroyed by this rune paper.”

“This won't harm Pianpian, will it?”

“Not at all. By the way, is this the only reason you wanted to see me?”

“I was wondering if you have any protective amulets?”

“I do.”

“I mean the kind that protects people?”

“My amulets are effective only against demons and spirits.”

“When can you create an amulet that protects against human threats?”

“The Keepers of Forbidden Lore don't craft such amulets.”

“Can't the Keepers of Forbidden Lore evolve with the times?”

“Cultivators shouldn't get too entangled with the mundane world.” Xiao Ming looked earnestly at Ye Hao. “Take my advice—if you keep going down this path, you'll eventually find it impossible to let go of your emotional ties.”

“Then I won't let go.”

“It's not that simple,” Xiao Ming sighed. “We cultivators remain unchanged for decades, even centuries, while the people you care about will age and pass away.”

“The standards for cultivation are incredibly stringent. I've noticed that Tang Pianpian lacks the aptitude for it.”

“Give me some time to think.”

With that, Xiao Ming drifted away.

Watching Xiao Ming's retreating figure, Ye Hao had to concede that his temperament was better suited for the path of cultivation.

He had stepped into the ordinary world but remained unshackled by sentiment.

Xiao Ming departed without a backward glance, free of any burdens.

But could Ye Hao do the same?

Lost in thought, Ye Hao remained motionless until he was jolted back to reality by the sound of a car horn.

“Ye Hao,” Tang Pianpian called from the rolled-down window, “what are you standing around for?”

“I'm just pondering over a few things,” Ye Hao remarked, opening the car door and sliding into the seat.

Tang Pianpian gazed at Ye Hao, noticing his furrowed brow, and a hint of compassion flickered in her eyes. “Is something bothering you?”

She wasn't scared of the dark or ghosts; her only fear was seeing Ye Hao upset.
