...

"Will you take her to the test tomorrow?"

A man turned around when he heard a woman’s voice. Standing not far from him with her hand crossed was his wife. He smiled bitterly. "Even if we’re part of the scientists there, do you think it’ll be possible for us to pull some strings in order not to let our children be tested?"

"Well..." The woman pursed her lips. "I just don’t want Kanae to be in trouble."

The man, Kanae’s Father, sighed. "Based on the test result she got after her birth, she has slightly higher talent. You know that anyone with that result has to be tested again for the second time."

The woman, Kanae’s Mother, looked at her husband for a moment before she turned around. Slowly, she walked out of the room to the large corridor. There were several rooms there, and she could hear the sound of two young children laughing happily.

"Kanae, Laura, it’s time to sleep."

"Mom, I still want to play!" Kanae’s cheerful voice can be heard from the room.

Kanae’s Mother shook her head and pushed the door open. She could see Kanae and Laura in front of large boxes that they arranged to create a city. The size itself was pretty big with some dolls on the side as the two of them chatted together, role-playing with their dolls.

Kanae’s Mother crossed her arm. "Time to go to sleep, Ladies. You know that it’s already late at night."

"Awwwhh."

The two children protested. They were only nine and eight years old, so they still loved to play around. Leaving their ’city’ as it is to play again tomorrow, the two of them headed back to their room.

"Night, Mom!"

"Night, Sweetheart."

Kanae’s Mother watched as the two children returned back to their rooms. Thinking about their test results just made her sadder. Because of her and her husband’s lineage, their children possessed higher potential than normal children. This might possibly allow them to awaken their hidden talents and live an abnormal life.

It was something that she didn’t want to happen because she knew how hard it was to live like that in this world.

Returning back to the room, she could see her husband working on a piece of paper. She arched her eyebrows as she looked at the details that he had written. "Kirei Servo and Yueda Servo? Are you trying to create different identities for them?"

The names also sounded strange.

Kanae’s Father raised his head. He nodded. "After I found their test results back then, I infiltrated and breached the database. I will be able to register them using these two names so that if their test results show that they have higher potential, they could still have a normal life."

"But what if they have the potential to awaken their talents? Do you want to repeat what had happened decades ago to the first awakened?" Kanae’s Mother asked worriedly.

Hearing that, Kanae’s Father stayed silent for a moment. "I believe that they’ll be able to withstand the pressure. Even if it might be dangerous for them to live while blending with the world, I don’t want them to live an abnormal life just because of their high potentials."

Kanae’s Mother looked at the paper worriedly, but in the end, she said nothing. They will know the result after the test tomorrow.

...

"Here are the test results for your two children. We hope that you can make the correct decision." one of their colleagues handed over a document to Kanae’s Father.

"Thank you."

Tearing the seal open, Kanae’s Father read the contents. The first one was for Yueda Servo or Laura Nali. Looking at the result, he understood that his second daughter had inherited their talents. However, it was not above the limit. She would never have any chance to awaken her talent in the future.

The second one was for Kirei Servo or Kanae Nali. After reading it, Kanae’s Father’s eyes shook. It was far above average, meaning that Kanae had huge chance to awaken her talent. On top of that, her talent should also be something that’s powerful, either from Nali or Servo.

Attached together with Kanae’s result was the golden letter. Clearly, they wished for him to hand it over to her.

’Which one.....it’s Servo, isn’t it?’

Kanae’s Father looked over to Kanae’s direction. The two of them were chatting to one another, thinking that it was nothing more than just a health test. They didn’t know that this test result would seal their fates forever.

"Dear?" Kanae’s Mother called. She looked at the test result with her eyes widened. As a researcher, she was very familiar with those numbers and understood fully well that Kanae would be able to awaken her talent in the future. Not only that, but the chance was also very high.

"That’s...."

"Whose talent do you think it is?" Kanae’s Father asked in a low tone.

Kanae’s Mother’s eyes moistened with tears. She came from the direct lineage while he came from the branch. Besides, all this time, Kanae had shown her high physical ability that was growing at rapid speed with each training session that she had. It was not hard to guess that the talent Kanae inherited must have come from hers.

"Mine, isn’t it?"

"I think so too."

Kanae’s Father kept the test result inside his bag as his mind churned. He knew that in no time someone would come to take ’Kirei Servo.’ Even though he didn’t list Kirei and Yueda as his daughters, they would surely investigate him because he was one of the few scientists who did the test.

At that time, they would find out that ’Kirei Servo’ was actually ’Kanae Nali.’

"They’re going to come and take her away because of this test result. What should we do?"

After hearing her husband’s question, Kanae’s Mother closed her eyes and the moment she opened them again, they were filled with determination. "In that case, I’ll make an escape route for her."

Kanae’s Father balled his fingers into a fist. "Do you think that it’s possible?"

"Why not?"

There was a sad smile on Kanae’s Mother’s face. If she didn’t do something, it was clear that her daughter would die. However, she knew that this decision might lead to her own death as well. After all, she would be hiding something right under the government’s nose.

Looking at his wife’s eyes, Kanae’s Father nodded. "I’ll prepare the papers. Do you know a way to get her out from here once she’s taken in?"

Kanae’s Mother paused for a moment. She racked her brain to find a way when she suddenly recalled her nephew, whom she had tried to protect. All along, he had wanted to get out too, but there was no chance.

Now, she would create the chance to save both children.

"I’ll make the way."

"In that case, I’ll start preparing the papers and hack into the security system. At that time, I’ll create a short circuit here to turn off all power," Kanae’s Father made his decision.

"I understand."

Kanae’s Mother returned back to her children while her mind was still occupied with the ’escape’ plan. The two girls rushed over when they heard that it was time to go home. It seemed that they were already impatient to go back home.

"Mom, I’m going to cook today!" Kanae said happily.

"No!" Laura interjected. She glared at her sister. "I won’t be able to eat anything if you are the one who cook. Last time, the dinner was delayed by three hours because of the mess you had created in the kitchen, Sis!"

"But I’ll surely get better."

"Meh, I don’t believe it!"

Kanae’s Mother laughed. "I’ll be the one to cook. You two help out from the side. How about that?"

"Yes!"

The two of them cheered again as they discussed the division of the workload. Seeing her children like that, Kanae’s Mother steeled her heart. She wanted to see them happy like this for as long as possible. Thus, she didn’t mind putting her life on stake.

’I’ll succeed...no, I must succeed.’

Kanae’s Mother looked at her daughters. ’I’ll live and continue to protect them for as long as I can. Until the time they can spread their wings and fly to the sky, I’ll be the one to keep them safe and sound.’
