Chapter 311The Underground [5]
Indeed, to Ren, the djinn did meet most of the criteria.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
With all the djinn's bodies down below, he could have, just like Ren, used the chaos to hide and enter the vault.
For all Ren could have known, the djinn could have just been faking death and then used the moment when Ren and Lily weren't paying attention to sneak into the vault.
There were hundreds of corpses down there; even with his enhanced eyesight, Ren wouldn't have noticed an alive one.
Scratching his head, Ren, trying to comprehend Ruby's leap in logic, questioned.
"So assuming this djinn is the intruder...you're saying that he made this space far earlier than I sent the purple orb."
Nodding her head in agreement, Ruby stood back up before replying.
"There was definitely time."
"Those two recruiters that you saw earlier in the vault weren't there at the start."
"While the others and I were overwhelmed by the horde of djinns at the beginning of the fight, the intruder could have easily sneaked up into the ceiling and made that area."
Connecting the pieces further, Ruby pointed at the ground covered with corpses below before saying.
"Once he left the ceiling, after you arrived, he could have easily played dead amongst all the bodies. Then, when we weren't paying attention, just sneak through the gap and into the vault."
Now fully sure that this djinn that he had met earlier, at least, had something to do with the intruder, Ren attempted to recall his figure and description with his eyes.
With his enhanced eyesight, Ren could easily recall the figure, and even the clothes, of a person who he had only seen once for at most two days.
And it had been less than two hours since Ren had seen that djinn.
Surely, he would, at the minimum, be able to recall the face of that djinn.
Yet...as he racked his brain and strained his eyes, nothing came to mind.
It was weird...Ren could perfectly recall his conversation with the djinn and the words said, but not even the clothes of the djinn were apparent in Ren's memory.
Even the backdrop at the time of their conversation was clear.
Ren could recall the shapes and colors of the wall that the djinn was standing in front of without any problems.
But...the djinn's figure was just blank.
Against the perfect backdrop of the wall, all Ren could see in his memory was a blurry figure where the djinn was supposed to be.
Like he had never been there in the first place...
Seeing Ren zoned out, Ruby quickly tapped him before saying.
"...you don't remember the djinn's appearance or anything?"
Seeing Ren go completely silent, Ruby sighed for continuing.
"Now...that's odd. You usually remember everything, even the smaller details."
Noticing Ruby practically read his thoughts, Ren shook his head before saying.
"It seems that this djinn's ability is related to invisibility and avoiding the detection of others...even me."
Agreeing, Ruby nodded her head before walking to the edge of the hole that led down into the underground space.
It was one thing that Ren was not able to see the djinn...but the fact that he couldn't even remember the djinn's appearance, despite staring at him for a solid couple of seconds, was concerning.
It was like the djinn...had removed himself from Ren's memories.
Seeing Ruby gesture for him to come closer, Ren followed before also staring downward; his shoulders slumped back.
Pointing at the gap that led into the vault, Ruby said.
"It's time we go back."
Surprised, Ren paused for a moment before refuting.
"It's cool that we know the intruder is a djinn and someone who was here in the cave during the fight...but how does that help us?"
"What difference would it make if we went back into the vault right now? Considering his ability to avoid detection, we wouldn't be able to find him in there.
Shrugging her shoulders, Ruby placed her right foot forward, balancing on her left foot while being right next to the edge of the hole.
"We came to find clues, and we found them. Also, we've confirmed that the intruder is actually in the vault and not hiding out here."
"We've established he's entered the vault at some point in time, and I doubt he would leave for no reason, especially when we're far from finding him. So, he's most likely still in the adult."
Nodding his head, Ren pondered for a moment before slowly nodding his head.
With a smile on his face, Ren pointed at the vault before saying.
"Damage...if he takes damage, his invisibility or whatever ability that gives him immunity goes away."
"When he was hit by my purple orb, I could see him, but after that, and until now, he was invisible to me."
Ruby, seeming to understand Ren's idea, sighed before replying.
"He could be anywhere inside the vault...you can't possibly hit every centimeter in there without weakening the seal."
However, as Ruby slowly looked towards Ren and saw the grin on his face, an audible groan emerged from her mouth.
"You don't care about the seal anymore...do you?"
Back in the vault, Ren's corrupted figure suddenly halted before robotically turning around and heading towards Lily and Alya.
Noticing his presence, Lily grabbed a magical artifact and placed it on ht ground while saying.
"Find something?"
Ignoring Lily's question, Ren commanded his corrupted figure to ask.
"What is the minimum amount of magical artifacts needed to keep the beast from breaking out, providing there are no external influences."
Halting, Lily suspiciously glanced at Ren's corrupted figure before slowly responding.
"Impossible to know; I can give you a range, though. About 20% of the artifacts in here are enough to keep the beast inside. The other 80% of artifacts are for cases like this when there is an outer force trying to get in."
In the next second, the corrupted figure suddenly began to melt and disappear, causing both Lily and Alya to step back in confusion.
