Vol 2 – Chapter 14: Strange Fates
Translated by XianPiete
Ito Yuuki was angry as she walked home, why had her brother committed suicide by jumping in front of a truck, it made no sense to her. He just ran out of the Dojo and stood by the crosswalk until a truck came and then ran out in front of it yelling, 'I'm coming back for you!' He had so much to live for he was a rising star in the Kendo world, a good brother who had always been able to help her and who would listen to her even when she only talked about a video game that didn't interest him at all. He was good in school, popular and handsome. It just made no sense at all.
Most of all Yuuki was mad that it pushed her father over the edge causing him to commit suicide a month later. She was alone in this world with no one but herself to run the Dojo and to continue the family traditions. The two men she counted on the most just abandoned her to her fate without so much as a goodbye letter to help her understand their reasoning. She was so frustrated that she could only angrily push forward in her own life. She was at an intersection headed to the grocery store. She looked and saw that it was clear stepping off and walking aggressively to the other side and yet the horn blaring let her know of the truck's existence the moment before it hit.
Yuuki felt no pain oddly enough, she just blacked out.

Renée Baux was happily singing as she walked back from the Inn. It was her favorite place to go on the weekends because there were always boys to flirt with and songs to sing. Lately, she felt as if she had been born under a lucky star. Her family just started being taken care of by higher-ups for seemingly no reason, and her family was able to raise her allowance to the level of some of the wealthier Houses. It was like a dream come true for her. She was able to afford the latest fashions and the most expensive scents sold by the House Montfort shops in the city.
She gracefully danced around as she walked down the dimly lit forest path that was a shortcut back to the women's dorm at the Academy de L'échec. She saw a group of her friends up ahead of her and yelled out to them, "Hello! Wait for me, I'm headed back too!" She rushed ahead and didn't see the protruding root in the ground tripping and banging her head against the trunk of a large oak knocking her out cold.
Her friends rushed up and yelled out, "Renée! Are you alright?"
One of them said, "There's so much blood, I hope she is alright. I don't think she is breathing!"
A moment later Renée took a deep breath and start to mumble in a strange language. Her friends all looked at each other and said, "This is bad, I think she is really hurt. We need to get her to the Doctor's office."
*****
The EMTs quickly loaded Yuuki on to a board with a spinal support collar around her neck. They gently moved her onto a gurney and loaded her into the back of the ambulance. She suddenly opened her eyes and started to panic speaking in a strange French dialect. The EMTs looked at each other, neither of them knew the language so they spoke slowly, "Miss, just stay still, you've been in an accident. You were hit by a truck. It will be alright. Just sit still we're taking you to the hospital."
A few minutes later she said in Japanese, "I think I hurt my head, I don't know exactly who I am, I think I might be remembering a video game."

Doreen just happened to be walking by the Doctor's office when she saw three girls awkwardly carrying a fourth who looked badly hurt. As Doreen looked closer she yelled out, "Renée!" She ran over and took the girl from the other three in a princess carry and walked into the Doctor's office with her and gently laid her on the table. She pushed the other three girls out of the room and then said, "Heal!" A green glow covered Renée from head to toe. Doreen then took a damp cloth and cleaned the blood off her one time closest friend. She said softly, "I'm sorry Renée, I felt it was better to let you live your own life this time."
Renée slowly opened her eyes and her long lashes blinked a few times and then she asked, "Are you, Doreen Leon? The Doreen Leon from the Council of Magic?"
Doreen shivered and then asked in a low voice, "How do you know that? Renée? Is that you?"
Renée blinked her eyes a couple of times and then shook her head, "Have I ended up in Noble School?"
Doreen grabbed Renée by the shoulders and stared into her eyes and asked, "Who are you really, I know you aren't Renée. Noble School is the name of the... Oh toe meh game from... Knee pon, right?"
Renée blinked and then said, "My name is Ito Yuuki."
Doreen gasped, "Aoi's sister? Are you Ito Aoi's sister?"
Renée sobered up and looked at Doreen and asked, "Is this heaven? Why do I remember being Renée Baux, a character from Noble School?"
Doreen shook her head and said in a soft almost mumble, "It's unbelievable, I can't... We have to go see Guy. I... Yes, we just have to see Guy." Doreen carefully helped Renée up and then created a gate and the two of them instantly vanished from the room.
A moment later the school's doctor arrived and said, "I could have sworn I heard voices in here. Oh well."

Guy stared at Renée and then started to talk in Japanese. Renée replied to him in Japanese. The two of them spoke back and forth this way for a few minutes and then Renée slapped Guy hard across the face and ran out of the room crying. Guy touched his cheek and said to Doreen, "Will you follow her please, and take care of her. She doesn't want to talk to me at the moment."
Doreen wanted to ask but decided it was better if she didn't. She just ran after Renée as he asked. Thanks to her enhanced stats it was no trouble at all for Doreen to catch up to Renée. She ran up beside her and asked, "Are you alright?"
Renée stopped and while crying said, "Why would he just leave me, he just killed himself and left me. What did I do to deserve that?"
Doreen wrapped her up in a hug and said softly, "Your brother came back to save this world. He had to correct a mistake he made. It wasn't to hurt you, it was to heal the hearts that needed him here. Your brother isn't an awful person, he's a hero. A hero that saves you when you need him the most."
Renée cried in her arms and sobbed out, "I needed him too. Why couldn't he save me?"
Doreen shook her head and said softly, "In another time, he did, and it cost him his own heart."
Renée clutched on to Doreen tighter and said, "I don't understand."
Doreen ran her hand over Renée's hair and replied in a soothing calm voice, "We will explain it, just let out these feelings. Your brother is still the good man you remember. Just give us time to explain."
