The Strongest Assassin Reincarnates in Another World

Chapter 372 - Drink or to not Drink

As he said that, he tried summoning some of his mana to cast the spell but it didn't work.

There was nothing he could do. No matter how hard he tried to summon his mana there was nothing.

'Why isn't it working?' He thought, confused as to what was happening right now.

For some reason, there was no way for him to access his mana.

This made him go back to normal instantly as he now knew that there was a problem right now.

"What did you do to me?" David asked as he realized what happened, surprisingly he lost all access to his mana after drinking from that bottle that was in her hands.

"Son of a bitch! Don't tell me-"

A few moments before the director started shouting as loudly as possible, Aiden was still waiting patiently at the bottom of the cave, not knowing what was happening up there.

Aiden knew that there were good chances that Evelynn's plan would fail which is why he trusted a lot more the mechanism that he had prepared around him which consisted of something that was actually quite simple.

The moment that David walked past a certain threshold, the potion would be released into the air as some sort of gas that would be breathable.

And by breathing it, David would lose access to his mana. Aiden had prepared himself by having a mask that would make the effect of the potion disappear. However, nothing was sure in life. There were good chances that something unexpected would happen and Aiden wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

Still, he knew that he had no other choices, he knew that this was the only way for the director to have a "taste" of the potion. He hadn't been able to think of anything else that would have the same effect. Well, there was the solution that Evelynn had come up with, and Aiden truly hoped that it would work though he simply wasn't sure that it would.

"I wonder what's happening up there…" Aiden mumbled as it had been at least five minutes since they had entered the cave and Aiden couldn't hear any noises anymore.

It seemed like they had stopped to take a break which meant that Evelynn was currently attempting to make him drink the potion.

'Well, I'll soon know if it worked or not…' Aiden thought as he knew that he would hear some shouting if it truly worked.

Aiden hoped that it would since it would make things a lot easier. If the director didn't have access to any mana, then it wouldn't even be a challenge for Aiden. He would only be going up and killing someone that would be defenseless.

'It's not like the training that I gave him will help him that much.'

The training that Aiden had given hadn't been complete bullshit, but it didn't matter since Aiden had years of practice with using a dagger which wasn't the case at all for David who had just recently started practicing it.

Then as Aiden was having those thoughts, there was a huge shout that resounded everywhere inside the cave. However, the shout didn't come from Evelynn… it came from the director who seemed pissed off about something.

'Don't tell me… did it really work? No way, there's no way it really did,' Aiden thought as he started running up the cave as the words that he had heard held quite a simple meaning.

The words that he had heard implied something quite simple, Evelynn had really done it. She had managed to pull it off, Aiden couldn't even begin to imagine how, however, the how didn't matter, she had done it and Aiden was finally going to be able to go back to Nova and see everything that had happened in the meantime.

"Finally… It finally happened," Aiden muttered as he was picking up the pace while running up. Still, he knew that it could take his time, the director was going to stay there. He wasn't going to be able to teleport away anytime soon.

Aiden took his sweet time while the director was freaking his mind out.

"What did you fucking do to me? There's no way that you really did that… There is no fucking way!" He shouted.

David only realized now what had happened.

"That fucking bottle what was inside it? Shit, why did I ever trust you?" David realized that inside the bottle that he had just drunk, there was the potion that Aiden had created with Anna.

Evelynn didn't say anything as she knew that Aiden would be arriving in a few seconds. He would arrive and he would end this whole thing for once and for all.

"There's no way, don't tell me that he's coming…" David muttered as he started hearing loud steps that came from the depths of this cave.

David was slowly starting to understand the situation that he was currently in.

"From the very beginning, this was a trap, right?" David asked with a calm tone.

For some reason, he didn't seem flustered or anything similar to that. He stayed emotionless.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"Of course, it was. Did you really think that I would be coming back to give you information when you called me a whore?" Evelynn asked as if it was extremely obvious that such a thing would never happen.

David nodded as he knew very well the words that he had used in the past and the actions that she had just taken sort of proved his point.

"Aren't you one, though?"

Evelynn was furious when she heard that. There was no way that she wouldn't be doing anything to him.

"Just use this moment to the fullest, because when he gets here we can say bye-bye forever."

David smiled when he heard that as if not minding it whatsoever.

Evelynn was a little worried that there was absolutely no panic shown by the director.

However, she acted like it wasn't a problem as she was 90% sure that her plan had worked. He had drunk in her bottle, there was no reason that the plan had failed.

"Whatever…"

Instead of panicking and trying to find a way out of the cave, David sat down against a wall just like Aiden had done had the bottom of the cave.

"What are you doing?!" Evelynn asked not understanding any of his actions.

"Well, you told me to live my last moments to its fullest. That's what I'm doing, I'm thinking about my life and everything that I achieved… What about you, what did you ever achieve?"

That question coming from the director was surprising for her as she really hadn't expected it.

"Uh… me?" She asked, unsure.

She was hesitating over how to respond, there weren't many things that she had done in life that could be considered an achievement.

"Yes, you. What did you do in your life?" The director asked as he kept looking at the ground not even caring about her. "You see, I did a lot of things in my life. But what about you? Don't you think that you ruined it by meeting him?"

Those questions hurt Evelynn deeply as she knew that without any mana, she wouldn't be able to do anything in her life.

She didn't say anything as it was now her turn to look at the ground thinking about various things.

"Nothing? You didn't do anything in life?"

Evelynn was getting tired of being asked that question as she knew that she hadn't done much. She had entered the Magic Academy, and after that… well she had succeeded in trapping one of the strongest mages in the world.

"Look at you… That's what I did!" Evelynn exclaimed as she finally realized that she had done something incredible. There was no one else who could boast about doing such a thing. Well, except for Aiden, who would be arriving any minute now.

But, he still wasn't here and the director seemed talkative for some reason.

"What do you think will happen once he's done with me?" David asked Evelynn as he knew that she had thought about it.

There was no way that such a thought or such a question hadn't entered her mind.

David looked at her for the first time and he liked the expression that he saw on her face.

There was hesitation and that was exactly what he wanted to see. He wanted her to hesitate.

"Well… He'll take care of me, there's no reason that he wouldn't."

Evelynn was clearly hesitant when saying that because she knew what Aiden was capable of, and she was worried that he would do something similar to her.

What if Aiden suddenly decided that she had no use anymore and killed her with him?

"Are you sure about that?" David asked, putting pressure on her.

This time, there was no answer whatsoever.

Putting pressure on her was the whole point of this conversation. From the very beginning, David tried to put as much pressure as possible on her, wanting her to stop helping Aiden. He knew that he couldn't really rush things since she would pick up on it.

"Do you even know why he wants to kill me?" David asked as he noticed that she was on the verge of breaking down.

It was clear that Evelynn's mind was currently in turmoil. There were many thoughts in there jumbling with one another, probably making the task of having clear thoughts about this situation really hard.

'I don't know… That's true, I have no idea why he wants to kill him, though it doesn't matter.'
