The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 39: “Now It’s Fine.”

At that moment, Leisha really was shaken.

"He actually canceled out the spacial annihilation?"

No. That's not right.

It's not canceled, but resisted.

If it was canceled, then he should have release a spell on the same level as hers. Only then would it be doable.

However, he obviously didn't do that. He really did just take Leisha's magic head on without harm.

It couldn't be.

"He… Learned a resistance skill?

———— [Resistance Skill].

Those are known among defensive skills as the highest class of skills.

That's because normal defensive skills all basically operate by increasing one's own defensive power. To have the skill take any incoming damage so that it wouldn't actually reach the user's body.

For example, if a person's normal defensive ability could take the attack of a level 10 opponent, then after learning a defensive skill, that defensive ability would increase, perhaps to the point where it could take a level 20 or even 30 attack.

But resistance skills are different.

Resistance skills won't increase the user's defensive ability, nor would it let the user receive damage and then mitigate that to defend. Instead, that it does is to directly weaken a fraction of the damage dealt to the user.

That's a completely different meaning from the previous example.

If it was the former, then no matter how much defensive power gets stacked on, in the end there would always be an attack that exceeds that defensive power. That's what was known as "defense break".

But resistance skills are different.

No matter how powerful an opponent's attack is, the resistance skill would always directly weaken the damage dealt.

And the higher the level the skill is, the greater the damage weakening effect is.

In other words, the former has a limit to its damage mitigation, but the latter doesn't. Be it a level 1 attack or level 100 attack, it would all get the same percentage of its damage weakened.

Only, if one wants to learn a resistance skill, one must constantly take damage until one's own body start exhibiting a certain degree of "resistance" and "immunity" to a certain type of attack before it's possible to learn. It's extremely difficult all told.

Therefore, resistance type skills are the most difficult to learn among defensive skills, but they're also the strongest defensive skills.

Since Shien could resist even spacial annihilation magic, then, unless he managed to cast some kind of rare unique or special skill, or he used some legendary class magic item, the only possibility left is that he learned a magic weakening resistance skill.

The problem is though…

"That's a high class magic that was cast with level 7 [Magic – Spacial] skill though!"

Even for a resistance skill, it's normal to be able to resist a portion of the damage, but to completely nullify it, just how high leveled does the skill have to be for that to be possible?

It would have to at least be the same level as the [Magic – Spacial] skill, that is level 7, for that to happen, right?

And Leisha also had her unique skill's support, which not only removed the need to chant, but also boosted her magic.

In that case, then unless the other person had learned a level 8 or 9 resistance skill, there's no way he could do something like that.

But that guy was obviously only level 10 though!

Merely level 10, so how could he have possibly learned such a high level and high difficulty skill?

"He must have used his unique skill, or it's his the power of his Holy Sword."

Supposedly, the Heroes' Holy Swords had various amazing effects.

Such as, being able to increase the user's level.

Such as, being able to increase the level of the user's skills.

Such as, being able to mitigate damage to the user, just like a resistance skill, where it directly nullifies a percentage of any incoming damage.

The stories of legend have described it. When the Heroes were facing the strongest demons, with the protection of their Holy Swords, they could nullify a portion of all attacks no matter how many demons there were.

Especailly the Hero who defeated the Demon King a thousand years ago. He could even nullify half of any damage from his opponents.

This matter had been until now considered legends, and were written in various legend compilations, novels, and stories.

In that case, Shien must have used his Holy Sword.

Leisha was certain about that, but also involuntarily shifted her gaze to the bundle that had been on Shien's back all this time.

That bundle had no sign of being opened at all though.

That had shaken Leisha once again.

On the ground, Shien who clearly saw that got a shine in his eyes.

"A chance!"

Take advantage of his opponent being shaken to beat her into the ground.

Shien made that decision without a hint of discomfort.

Yet, at this moment, Leisha seemed to have suppressed her internal conflict and breathed out a sigh.

"It looks like it's not just the Holy Sword. Your unique skill is also extremely strong huh."

Leisha said something like that.

Obviously, in the end, Leisha settled the reason on the power of the Hero's unique skill.

"Just like you said. I can't deal with you either." Leisha gave Shien a deep and meaningful gaze, "You're even more unusual than I had thought. Perhaps even the Hero that defeated the Demon King a thousand years ago would..."

Leisha stopped as she reached that point, and then she let out another sigh.

"Let's leave it at that for today."

Leisha withdrew all her magical power, and her expression changed from back to what it was before.

"You want to run now?"

Shien immediately taunted her.

"Did you want to keep me here?" Leisha gave a teasing half-smile, "Don't bother. Even if you used the Holy Sword. You wouldn't have any trouble winning against me, but you definitely won't be able to keep me from leaving."

Leisha does know spacial magic after all.

With just a spacial shift, Leisha would have been able to easily leave the battlefield.

"However, you don't need to worry about me running away either. I just don't want to keep fighting you is all."

Leisha retrieved an invitation like letter from her cleavage and tossed it in Shien's direction.

Shein saw that scene.

And the… Let the letter land on the ground.

"Why didn't you grab it!?"

Leisha once more complained.

Yet Shien's reply was quite strong too.

"To grab at something tossed at you by someone who was trying to kill me just a moment ago. Isn't that pure idiocy?"

Shien shot back with that kind of reply.

Based on the atmosphere just now, maybe it'd be coolest to just naturally grab it. That kind of thing happens a lot in novels too, but Shien had thought one thing quite often whenever he saw it in novels before.

"What if it was a bomb that was thrown?"

Therefore, Shien willfully refused this time.

"You…!"

Leisha was completely pissed off, and her chest heaved. That actually ended up attracting Shien's gaze.

It must be said, that girl's figure really is nice.

"Whatever!" Leisha spoke while gritting her teeth, "I'm going back to Lamdrion. If you want to see me, then come find me at the address written there!"

As she said that, Leisha shouted like she was worried that Shien would once again do something contrary to normal thought.

"Remember to come! You'll regret it otherwise!"

With those words, Leisha finally turned about and disappeared as if merging into space.

Shien watched the location where she disappeared calmly. Only until a long while after did he loosen his shoulders and shift his gaze to the invitation letter that fell to the ground.

"Regret… Huh?"

What he really feels is that if he ran over to find her, then he'd regret it.

"No matter how you look at it, it all looks like an event where I end up getting caught in even more troublesome stuff."

Shien didn't forget. Leisha said it when she first appeared, that she came to Lamdrion while "running away".

"Becoming the accomplice of a runaway criminal?"

Troublesome.

Super Troublesome.

Therefore.

"Splash!"

A patch of dirt flew over and buried that eye-catching invitation.

"Now it's fine."

Shien then acted like nothing had happened. He stretched himself a bit, turned around, and left.

However, after Shien had left, a figure appeared without a sound and picked the invitation back up from within the dirt.

The girl in black cloak thus watched Shien as he left, and fell silent for a long while.
