The Blue Eyes

Chapter 226 - THE BIRTHDAY PARTY

Today was Kris's birthday. He officially turned 28 today, and even though he had been experiencing so many difficulties in the past few months, he was still happy when he finally had his very first birthday party in his life.

It was indeed his first birthday party. When his parents were still around, they had never held a birthday party like this. It wasn't like his parents didn't want to celebrate his birthday, but he was the one who didn't want any kind of celebration during his birthday.

For him, a birthday meant he was getting older, and getting older meant he wouldn't be able to play freely anymore.

That was what he thought when he was a little, and he was surprised when he requested a birthday party from Blue. His request was a camouflage they used to oust Blue and Jack from the investigation, but he ended up anticipating the party today.

His request was quite childish, but he was happy to be able to celebrate his birthday with the people he loved the most. He only had two people who were so precious to him, and the two people were Kevin and Blue.

Blue, as the nicest niece in the world, had handed him her present along with a kiss on his cheek. That was the first time the girl ever kissed him on the cheek, and he widened his hazel eyes immediately.

But the girl just smirked after kissing him. Sometimes Blue could be so shameless with her actions.

The party would start soon, and the guests they invited had come as well. Julia came alone to the orphanage, not forgetting to hand him a birthday gift. Kris thanked her and asked her to enjoy the party. The pregnant lady mocked him for being too formal.

Kevin's foster parents had come as well, but they didn't bring any present for him. They said that they were already too old, and Kris should be the one who gave them the gifts. Kris just smiled at them despite having a thought that the parents were just too stingy.

Casper had come too, and he was still in his uniform when he arrived at the orphanage. He handed a small box for Kris, and Kris accepted the gift with a frown on his forehead. The soldier just whispered, "You surely will like my present" before leaving him to hang out with Jack.

Ah, Jack. That annoying man was there as well, and that man didn't give him any present. He just muttered a simple "Happy birthday" before leaving him to play with the kids from the orphanage. Kris could only snort. He was surrounded by so many stingy people.

Now there was only Kevin who hadn't wished him a happy birthday yet. Even when they were still in their house, Kevin didn't say anything to him and seemed to be ignoring him like a plague.

He had been trying to speak to his lover, but his lover had been acting so busy and didn't want to talk to him at all. He was quite annoyed by it, but when he brought his gaze to scan the scene in the yard of the orphanage, his eyes couldn't see his lover's shadow.

The party hadn't officially started yet, and Kevin was the one who should have started the party. Strange indeed, but Kevin offered to be the emcee at his lover's birthday party.

Kevin said that the party should start just after sunset so the kids wouldn't get sleepy later, but now he was nowhere to be seen, and no one has officially started the party.

"Hey, Blue. Do you see your brother?" He asked the young girl, who was busy tasting the food prepared in the yard.

Blue was thin and not fat at all, but she had a huge appetite and couldn't stop eating even if the party had not started yet.

The girl finally stop munching as she looked up at her uncle. "I saw him fifteen minutes ago, but I don't see him anymore, Uncle. Why? Do you need something from him?"

Unexpectedly, Blue looked alright today. He expected the girl would feel heartbroken because Jack ended up inviting Casper and choosing to play with the soldier too much today, but the girl looked so relaxed.

Kris was glad because his niece wasn't hurt.

"Your brother should start the party officially, but he's nowhere to be seen. I'm worried something bad happened to him."

Kris looked so worried, but Blue just chuckled at her uncle's expression. "We are at the orphanage, Uncle. It's also Brother Kevin's home. Do you think something bad will happen here?"

Blue was mocking him, but Kris's face remained serious. Blue could be so relaxed because she didn't know what had happened in the apartment. The bad people even managed to kill the guard and steal AZURE, and they likely could do anything to achieve their goal.

However, Kris decided to keep it secret and just ruffled his niece's black locks lovingly. "Continue eating the food, Blue. I will try to look for your brother inside the building."

Hearing her uncle's order, Blue pouted her kissable lips. "Do you think I look like a glutton, Uncle?"

Perhaps Blue realized that she had been eating lots of food, and she felt guilty now.

"You need lots of food to grow up, Blue. It's no problem if you want to eat lots of food."

Her uncle had comforted her, and the blue-eyed girl finally grinned before going back to her activity with the delicious food. Kris shook his head helplessly. His niece was too innocent sometimes.

Deciding to leave his niece alone, Kris then brought his long legs to head to the front door of the orphanage. Upon arriving, he immediately pushed open the door, and his body froze.

There on the couch in the living room, Kevin was laughing happily with Luke next to him.

Kris didn't even remember that Luke had come to his party as well.
