The Blue Eyes

Chapter 222 - THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER

That was why both his adoptive father and mother hated Grace Hasler to the core. Kevin still remembered how difficult the situation was back then in 2021, and he could also imagine how his mother had been suffering alone all the time.

He had never said it before, but he often saw his mother crying secretly when he was little. He didn't know why his mother cried because he was still an innocent kid back then, but now that he was already an adult, he knew that his mother was crying because of her miserable life.

She used to have a perfect life with a loving husband and an adorable son, but then everything changed since Joseph Beischel could no longer conquer the evil within him.

She was living in dilemma. Should she just let her husband do what he wanted, or should she stop her husband before her husband could destroy the world?

She was torn in between the choice, but she ended up choosing the latter option. She decided to betray her husband and side with mankind instead.

Her misery did not end there because she still needed to escape from her husband's grip along with the werewolf formula and the antidote. She risked herself in the explosion, and she also risked herself when she ran away from her husband's grasp. And after she ran away from the evil husband, she could only rely on herself.

Selena only mentioned a few names that were said to be lending their hands to help her in the past seventeen years. The first name, of course, was Kris as her trustworthy man right from the start. The second name was the Lowell couple, and the third name was Derek Dawson.

Selena had never mentioned anything about Grace Hasler, assuring him that the head of the Intelligence Agency indeed had left his mother's side when his mother was facing difficulty.

When his mother needed support from her dearest person, Grace Hasler decided to betray her to live a comfortable life with the General's family instead.

Kevin clenched his fists tightly. His mother had given all she got to save Grace Hasler in the past, but the short-haired lady was shameless enough to leave his mother when she was at her lowest point.

The young scientist was not angry when the lady kept slandering him, but he was upset because the lady had failed his mother.

"You are angry, right, Kevin?" Charlotte's soft voice was heard again, and Kevin looked up at his adoptive mother. "That's why I don't want to tell you about it, Kevin. The matter related to Grace is your mother's secret, and because your mother is no longer around, we want to bury the secret and never dig it up again."

Charlotte sounded right, but she was actually wrong. Living in the dark was not a good life. Even if Kevin wouldn't feel the hurtful memory if he chose to stay in the dark, but he would rather feel the pain as long as he could see the bigger picture of this situation.

Grace Hasler successfully made a name for herself. Under the wings of a powerful General in the country, she successfully became the head of the Intelligence Agency at such a young age.

She was known as the only daughter of a great General in the country, and most people would only recognize her that way. Most people, including Julia.

But now that Kevin had learned the truth, he couldn't help but become apathetic toward the fierce lady. Grace Hasler was willing to leave his mother's side just because of her big name and prime, and she only saw his mother as a mere 'acquaintance' in the end.

That was such an ungrateful character, and Kevin hated that kind of person the most!

"Are you okay, Kevin?"

He could hear someone whispering beside him, and when he turned his head, he could see Kris staring at him in concern. His lover was worried, and he flashed a smile at his lover to comfort his lover's feelings.

"I'm okay, Kris," he answered softly. "I just didn't expect this story, so I'm so shocked upon hearing the story."

That was indeed a shocking story, and Kris himself had to admit that he was surprised as well.

"That's why we said that Grace is not a good person, Kevin," Charlotte chimed in again. "Do you think a normal person would be able to be the head of Intelligence Agency at the age of 32, Kevin? She's the youngest person with the highest position in this country, and how do you think she managed to seize that position? It's because of her nasty father!"

What he just heard from his adoptive mother was similar to the one he heard from Derek Dawson. The former General had told him that Grace Hasler was the same as her father in terms of gaining their high position using the power of their family.

He couldn't fully believe what Derek Dawson said before, but now that he heard the fact from his adoptive mother with such strong proof, how could he remain neutral and not lean to the side that was against the fierce woman?

His foster parents were right. Grace Hasler was not a good person.

"Let's not talk about it and just get ready for dinner," Charlotte spoke again, this time with a more relaxed tone. "I will call your dad first to ask him to come home, alright?"

Kevin nonverbally answered his mother's question with a curt nod, and his mother started dialing his father's number before talking to her husband.

"Where are you, Ben? Kevin and Kris are here. They are waiting for you here so we can have dinner together."

Both Kevin and Kris just observed the conversation in silence.

"Ah, so you are at Derek's house now? I know you are having fun with your old buddy, but you don't want to let your son and your son-in-law wait for you longer, do you? Just come back immediately."
