The Blue Eyes

Chapter 154 - KEVIN'S HUNCH

The perfectly round Helios was smiling widely ever since it emerged from behind the tall mountain. Its cheerfulness successfully exiled the gloomy clouds. The bright sun didn't let the clouds shading its beauty today, and it proudly became the only king in the blue sky.

It was still 9 in the morning. The sunlight was still friendly not to sting the skins. A man lying down on top of the green grass, while the other three youngsters sitting on top of it. They were lazing around under the shade of a big tree.

It was the weekend, and they used the moment to rest. Kevin was lucky. He just started working again yesterday, but now it was the weekend already.

"How was your work yesterday, Brother?" Blue asked the older man as she turned to Kevin, who leaned his back against the trunk of the tree.

Kevin, who had been watching the kids playing in the yard, slowly turned to Blue. "Nothing is different from my previous activity, Blue," he answered. "The only difference probably was the way my colleagues looked at me after I was absent for a long time. They questioned me the reason behind my absence, but since I didn't tell them the truth, they started giving me the look as if I'm the golden kid in the laboratory."

This time, Kris also turned to him as he frowned. "You didn't tell me about your colleagues' attitude last night. You only told me that everything was fine yesterday." He couldn't help but feel dejected because his lover didn't tell him the truth.

"It's not a big deal, Kris," Kevin replied. "My colleagues didn't do anything bad to me, so it's alright. I didn't tell you because it's not important."

It seemed like Kris still wanted to argue, but he stopped himself as he sighed. "You have to tell me if they start to treat you badly," he said.

Kevin chuckled when he saw his lover's angry expression. "I get it, Captain! I'll report everything to you if something bad happens!"

Kris just snorted and suddenly laid his body on the grass. He comfortably placed his head on top of Kevin's thighs. The owner of the thighs widened his eyes in surprise.

"What are you doing, Kris? There are many children here!" Kevin protested as he glanced at a group of kids that were running around the yard.

The yard was so energetic. The open space was filled with the children's laughter. The children were so innocent, and it was unfortunate that they had to stay in the orphanage without a real family.

Kris didn't budge and started closing his eyes. "So what?" He responded lazily. "It's not like I kiss you under their noses."

Kevin's face turned crimson in instant. He was about to scold his lover, but Jack was faster than him.

"I dare you to kiss Kevin right here and right now, Kris."

Kevin's eyes bulged once again. "Don't be crazy, Jack! Kris is crazier than you sometimes, and he might take your dare seriously!" He exclaimed.

Jack, who was still lying down on the grass, could only chuckle but didn't respond.

Kevin looked down at Kris, who was still lying on the grass, and he found that the latter had opened his eyes again while smirking dangerously.

"Why? You want me to kiss you right here and right now?"

Kevin rewarded the question by shifting his legs all of a sudden, making Kris's head fell to the ground with a thud. The young scientist giggled as he saw his lover displayed a painful expression while holding his head.

"You are so cruel, Kev!" Kris protested as he got up from his position. "You should've kissed my head, not throwing it to the ground!" He added as he scooted closer to sit beside his lover.

"Stay away from me!" Kevin pushed his lover's body, but his lover was too stubborn and too strong that his effort ended up futile.

"Anyway," Blue suddenly interrupted the bicker. "What should we do to investigate the case again? I couldn't find any information related to the weapons used by the werewolf. I don't know which bureau had confiscated the weapons."

Kevin and Kris turned to the blue-eyed girl and blinked at her confusedly. They had been idling in a few last days, and Blue's question just now made them realize that they didn't get any progress lately.

Kevin seemed to be thinking hard as his forehead creased. "The information about the weapons must be kept as a secret by the government. We can't get the information without the help from people from the government," he then stated.

"I think you are right, Kev," Kris replied. "But, what should we do to get the information? Should we make a query to Mr. Dawson again?"

Kevin was still frowning as he shook his head. "That's not a good idea," he responded. "Mr. Dawson may suspect our action if we insist on doing that. We still can't believe in anyone now."

Kris could understand Kevin's intention to keep their investigation under the cover, so he nodded in agreement. They couldn't recklessly investigate the case, and they had to be careful.

"What if I ask Julia about the weapons? She works for the government, after all." Kevin suddenly voiced his idea.

The three people looked surprised upon hearing the idea. Jack even got up from his lying position and stared at Kevin in disbelief.

"I remember just a minute ago you told us that we couldn't trust anyone for now," Jack commented in a sarcastic note.

Kris glared at him, but Jack just shrugged.

"I know," Kevin replied confidently. "But we are talking about Julia here. She is Andre's wife, and I trusted Andre so much when he was still around."

"I know that you trusted Andre, but it doesn't mean you can trust his wife as well. They are two different people," Kris commented, while Blue and Jack nodded in unison at the comment.

Seeing the three youngsters rejected his idea, Kevin could only sigh. "Andre and Julia are indeed two different people, but both of them are trustworthy. I have known both of them for years, and I'm sure that Julia is a good person." He still insisted on his idea.

"No one can guarantee that," Jack immediately argued. "People change all the time, just like me, who had also changed unexpectedly."

Kevin gazed at the tattooed man blankly. What Jack just said might be true, but he still wanted to trust Julia.

"I hate to say it, but Jack was right Kev." It was Kris's turn to argue. "Moreover, Julia has a grudge against Jack, so it's risky to trust her."

Kevin remained quiet. He ducked his head, and his face showed a mixed expression. He seemed to be irrational by voicing the idea, but his hunch told him that Julia was innocent. He didn't have any suspicion of the pregnant lady.

"What if I give it a try?" Kevin asked as he raised his head again, and he looked at the three youngsters with a hopeful gaze. "Let me talk with Julia personally to test her. After that, I will decide whether I can trust her or not."

The other three frowned at him.

"How will you test her?" Kris was the one who asked.

Kevin gulped nervously under the sharp gazes of the three youngsters who seemed to surround him. "I... I'm still not sure about that," he answered hesitantly. "I think I will just talk to her and try to see her reaction and expression. Yeah, I will just do that."

"You don't even know how to read the micro expression, Brother," Blue suddenly chimed in. "Let me go with you, and I will help you to test her. I'm more sensitive than you, after all."

Blue's idea sounded brilliant, but Kris seemed to disagree with that as he responded, "No, Blue." He gave the girl a stern look. "It's dangerous, so I will go with Kevin. When it comes to Kevin, I'm also sensitive to the people around us."

"Just say that you are not willing to let Blue go with your boyfriend, Kris," Jack immediately denied Kris's statement as he looked at the tan-skinned man with his playful gaze.

Kris seemed to be offended by the words as he retorted, "I was telling the truth, Jack! You better shut up when you know nothing about us!"

Jack pretended to be shocked, but his expression was the total opposite.

"Are you sure that you want to come along with me to meet Julia, Kris?" Kevin chose to ignore Jack and turned to his lover again. "Julia hates werewolf, and she might have some prejudice toward you."

"I know, Kev," Kris replied without a doubt. "If Julia wants to throw fits at me, then let her be. I'm strong enough to protect myself from a pregnant woman."

Kevin smiled when he saw his lover's determination. He was certain that Kris could protect himself, but more than that, he knew that Kris would also protect Julia if Julia lost control just like what happened two days ago.

"Alright, let's go to meet Julia today!"
