The Birth Of A Villainess

Chapter 153 - Courting Death (1)

While Gu Yan was still feeling nervous at what his new missions will be, Lin Xiaofei pondered how easy entrapping Gu Yan was.

She was already expecting him to resist and try to tell her that she couldn't order him no matter how much she threatened him or what she'll do to him.

That is why she thought of a few ways she could use to get him. And yet, just mentioning that she'll tell the tale of the events that day in the brothel, it seems that Lin Xiaofei had no use for her other methods.

With shaky hands, Gu Yan took the parchment from her. It felt so heavy on his hand as if there was a chain tying him down.

Gulping down the bile in his throat, he looked down at the parchment.

His eyes couldn't stop getting wider as he read the words that were written in it.

"This…" Gu Yan was unsure how to speak after seeing it..

As if she didn't notice the strange expression on his face, Lin Xiaofei casually poured herself a cup of tea. "I want you to send that to the residence of the Fourth Prince."

"I can't." Gu Yan bravely refused. "This matter… shouldn't young madam tell the Duke first?"

"And why is that?" Lin Xiaofei looked at him through the rim of her cup, "I'm only sending a letter informing the other party that I will be visiting shouldn't be too much."

Gu Yan shook his head, "That isn't the problem, young madam. Master has probably informed you who was the perpetrator from last night's assassination and yet, you…"

He didn't get to finish his words when he saw Lin Xiaofei's lips were beginning to smile again.

How could he be such a fool? Thought Gu Yan to himself.

He already knew that the young lady before him was not an ordinary girl. She was a man-eating female who could even murder in broad daylight. She probably doesn't have any fear in her bones.

And meeting the person who sent a couple of assassins to kill her last night might be her idea of an invitation to a banquet.

But what he couldn't understand was why would she do this?

"I understand that the young madam already planned this out but what would you get from courting danger?" Gu Yan politely asked. His face changed back to his serious, Buddha face.

What Gu Yan couldn't understand was why would she announce that she didn't die and the assassination failed by visiting the person who wanted her dead?

Yu Fangzhu wasn't the kind man he publicly portrayed himself. He was a snake that stayed hidden behind the bushes and waited to strike when its target was not expecting him to appear.

He was a meticulous strategist that even generals of the Four Kingdoms would pay their respect. His mind was perfect for scheming and manipulating people and things. Such a fearsome man shouldn't be provoked.

Unfortunately, Lin Xiaofei couldn't hear what he was thinking, or else she would have laughed until her stomach hurts. After all, the praises that Yu Fangzhu was getting from everyone were all made by her hands.

"I'm not courting danger." Lin Xiaofei sighed. People tend to forget what kind of character she has. "I just wanted to see the person who wanted me dead. See what kind of person he is and understand him."

Besides, she's not the one who's been courting death. It was Yu Fangzhu. Lin Xiaofei chose to hide her inner thought for later.

"So, are you going to send it to the Fourth Prince's residence?" Asked Lin Xiaofei. The smile that was tugging on her lips was still there.

Watching her face not betraying any kind of emotion that could tell him what she really planned to do, Gu Yan frowned.

"May I tell the Duke about this matter first?"

"You can. But only after you sent it." Lin Xiaofei was not giving him a way out to this. She really wanted him to send it to Yu Fangzhu.

She could use her people but that would endanger them. Bai Lu and the others don't have any skills in the deadly arts thus, rendering them useless and not suited for the task if Yu Fangzhu suddenly desires to kill them upon sending the letter.

On the other hand, if it was Gu Yan, Yu Fangzhu would need to think twice. Gu Yan was the chief of staff in the Qu residence and the right-hand man of Qu Xing Xu, anyone who would try to harm him, be it the emperor or the prince from another empire, they all need to give him a reason for harming his people.

In the end, Lin Xiaofei still decided to use Qu Xing Xu's might.

"Well?" Lin Xiaofei arched her brow. "Are you going to do it or not?"

Seeing him still hesitating, Lin Xiaofei was being patient with him.

She waited until he could finally gather his thoughts and decides to do the task.

Qu Xing Xu might get mad at her when he hears about this but that's another matter she needed to think of later. Just thinking about how he would react was giving her a headache.

"Besides, Qu Xing Xu's preoccupied right now so it is better if you decide quickly before I call someone else to do the task." Lin Xiaofei added on.

Her lips briefly tightened but that slight change in her face was immediately noticed by Gu Yan.

What was that? Was she perhaps feeling jealous? Gu Yan heard that his master was being held back by the Bai sisters in the tearoom.

They were making a lot of fuss about the wedding guests, telling Qu Xing Xu that they wouldn't allow the guests that Lin Xiaofei chose to attend the wedding while also trying to think of some ways to ruin the wedding.

Such easy schemes shouldn't escape his master's eyes but it seems that at the end of the day, Qu Xing Xu was getting something in it as a certain young lady was feeling slightly annoyed by it albeit not knowing it herself.

Feeling gleeful and happy for his master, Gu Yan's uncertainties and anxiousness were instantly thrown away.

His little sacrifice to obey her order should at least help his master to get closer to her.

"I will do it." Gu Yan finally said. "However, can I prepare for a few hours and ask a favor from the young madam?"
