“I don’t believe you one bit, you sly old fox. If you had no designs on my Lu Family, why would you let Zheng Yan go undercover in my Lu Family as an enforcer? Now that his identity has been revealed, you’re telling me about some deep connection, what a load of nonsense.”

That’s what Lu Mingchuan was thinking, but he didn’t show it on his face. Instead, he said with a smile, “What you’ve said is true, given the connection between you and our Lu Family, it is only right that we should help with such a trivial matter. Unfortunately, Lin Shen is not one of our Lu Family. Where he has gone, we have no way of knowing. At that time, he watched as Lin Shen and Wei Wufu left and realizing that Zheng Guyuan probably wouldn’t be able to get anything from Lu Mingchuan, he voluntarily spoke up to prevent Zheng Guyuan from losing face.

“Fine, you handle it. I’m a bit thirsty; a cup of tea wouldn’t be an issue for the Family Head of the Lu Family, right?” Zheng Guyuan wasn’t really in the mood for tea; this was a warning to the people of the Lu Family not to think about sending any messages.

Zheng Yan turned and left. He had been in Yashen Base for several years and naturally had his own ways. Finding someone in Yashen Base wasn’t hard for him.

“Please, come inside,” Lu Mingchuan invited Zheng Guyuan in without any change in his composure.

Zheng Yan overestimated himself and underestimated Yashen Base.

In fact, as soon as Zheng Guyuan dropped in on the Lu Family unannounced, the Ye Family had already received the news.

“Miss, Madam Ye requests your presence; it’s an important matter,” the Ye Family’s old butler came to the small training arena and said to Ye Yuzhen, who was in an ambiguous position with Lin Shen.

“No, an Ascender has arrived at the Lu Family specifically for Zheng Yan, said to be an uncle of his. Right now, they are looking for Young Master Lin. Madam Ye asked for you to discuss this matter,” the old butler explained.

“Is that so? Zheng Yan has Ascension Level elders?” Ye Yuzhen was also taken aback, and she hastened her steps to find Madam Ye.

The conversation outside the door wasn’t quite clear to Lin Shen, but Wei Wufu had heard it all.

“This is bad. Zheng Yan, elders, Ascenders, we’re in trouble,” Wei Wufu said quietly to Lin Shen.

Lin Shen was momentarily stunned and asked uncertainly, “You mean that scoundrel Zheng Yan? He has an Ascension Level elder in his family, and now they’ve come to trouble us?”

“Yes.” Wei Wufu nodded.

Lin Shen walked to the door and peered outside. Ye Yuzhen had gone far. After contemplating for a moment, he said to Wei Wufu, “Wei, let’s go.”

“Where to?” Wei Wufu asked while walking along.

“First, leave the Ye Family… no… leave Yashen Base…” Lin Shen muttered as he walked.

Ascenders were enormously powerful, which he had never seen, but he knew that a place like Yashen Base had neither Ascenders nor beings who could contend with Ascenders.

If he continued to stay with the Ye Family, and Zheng Yan and Ascenders came knocking, then it would just put Ye Yuzhen and the Ye Family in a difficult position.

If they didn’t hand over Lin Shen, that would mean offending an Ascender, possibly bringing disaster upon their entire clan.

If they handed over Lin Shen, that would put Ye Yuzhen in a tough spot.

Lin Shen didn’t want to make things difficult for Ye Yuzhen, and he had no desire to test human nature, so his only option was to leave.

Before that Ascender found him, leaving Yashen Base and plunging into the vast wilderness might offer him a glimmer of hope for survival.

“Then let’s hurry.” Lin Shen summoned the Red Jade Lion and rode off into the forest trail with Wei Wufu.

Lin Shen was afraid of a beast tide, but an Ascender was far more terrifying.

Soon after the two of them had fled Yashen Base, Zheng Yan had received the news and rushed back to the Lu Family as fast as he could, bringing the news of their departure with him.

“Run? Where can they run to? In the ends of the earth, death is the only escape,” Zheng Guyuan snorted coldly, rising to his feet and walking out.

“Uncle, let me go with you. I want to chop off Lin Shen’s head with my own hands,” Zheng Yan said through gritted teeth. He had been humiliated in front of the entire world, and he blamed all of it on Lin Shen, determined to kill him.

“Alright,” Zheng Guyuan said, pulling Zheng Yan by the hand and flying away through the sky.

In the Ye Family’s living room, Madam Ye lounged on the sofa, idly playing with a black cat’s ears.

“Mom, do you know who Zheng Yan’s Ascender elder is?” asked Ye Yuzhen as she entered, worried.

“He’s not here for you, so why are you so anxious?” said Madam Ye with a bemused smile, seemingly unconcerned.

“Mom…” Ye Yuzhen went behind Madam Ye, massaging her shoulders while coquettishly saying, “You’ll help him, right?”

“Him? Which him?” Madam Ye asked, smiling.

“Mom… stop teasing me… you know who…,” Ye Yuzhen said as she shook Madam Ye playfully.

“Alright, alright, stop shaking me, you’re going to break my neck,” Madam Ye laughed.

“So, you’re saying yes?” Ye Yuzhen’s face brightened with hope.

“Even if I said yes, it wouldn’t matter; that young man has probably already left Yashen Base by now,” Madam Ye remarked.

“What do you mean?” Ye Yuzhen, as clever as she was, immediately understood upon posing the question and incredulously looked at Madam Ye, “I was wondering why the old butler was so straightforward this time, telling me the reason. Turns out he did it deliberately for Lin Shen to hear. Mom, why would you do that? Is Zheng Yan’s elder really that formidable? Even you have to resort to such measures to drive Lin Shen away?”

“An Ascender, whether formidable or not, what’s the difference? I didn’t drive Lin Shen away; he chose to leave on his own. Should I have tried to stop him?” Madam Ye said with a serene smile, “If there’s anyone to blame, it’s him. The Lin Family are all the same, always running from trouble. His older brother did the same, and so does he.”

“This is infuriating,” Ye Yuzhen said, unsure who to blame at the moment.

Blame Madam Ye? She truly hadn’t driven Lin Shen away. It was Lin Shen who, upon hearing an Ascender was looking for him, ran away without even speaking a word.
