Sanctuary: Safe Haven

Chapter 237 New Inhabitants!

As Canna and Arborath floated above the newly revitalized Amazon area, the massive trees and vibrant flora beneath them were humming with life. The winds carried a sweet scent, and Canna could feel the pulse of the land beneath his feet.

The sanctuary was truly becoming something spectacular. Arborath, casually floating in the air, spoke once more. "It's time for my kin to enter."

Canna tilted his head at the statement. Arborath had mentioned his kin before, but he hadn't quite expected what came next. All across the Amazon area, tiny light green portals began opening, dotted like fireflies across the landscape. At first, hundreds of them, then a thousand—perhaps more. Each portal was small, pulsing with gentle energy, and from them emerged tiny blossom shells.

At first, the small ones appeared—a little larger than the size of a turtle hatchling. They waddled slowly, their little legs moving at a comically sluggish pace. Then, after a few minutes, another wave emerged. These were noticeably bigger, about the size of large dogs, moving a bit faster but still at that same signature, unhurried pace.

Finally, after another few moments, a third and final wave emerged. These blossom shells were massive, the size of small boulders. Their shells were adorned with intricate natural patterns of flowers and vines, and they moved with a sort of dignified grace, despite their size.

"Take care of my kin, young Harbinger," Arborath said, his tone both affectionate and amused. "The first to come are the youngest. The second are the pre-adults, and the third are the full-grown adults. Every time they breed, they lay at least 500 eggs. And though I'm not particularly proud to admit it, my kin... well, they're not the brightest.

Idiots, if you will." Arborath chuckled warmly, but his tone turned more serious. "However, they will help the land thrive. Consider them part of your domain now."

Canna nodded, a small smile forming on his lips. "That goes without saying. Anyone in my domain is considered family. Your kin are no different. But... Arborath, I hope you don't mind me asking—just how many kin do you have?"

Arborath chuckled once again, a glint of amusement flashing in his ancient eyes. "Oh, somewhere around ten million, give or take."

Canna's jaw dropped, his eyes wide with shock. "Te-ten million?" He stammered, trying to wrap his mind around the number. "I mean, I have a lot of space for them to roam around, but ten million? You do realize the population of my domain is roughly 2,500 to 2,700 people, right?"

Arborath's laughter was a deep, rumbling sound. "Don't worry, Harbinger. Your domain has space enough for them. You'll hardly notice most of them. They tend to keep to themselves, grazing, and being... well, slow."

Canna eyed the tiny blossom shells moving at a leisurely pace and sighed. He couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed, but he quickly reminded himself that Arborath's kin were a boon to the sanctuary. Even if they were slow and perhaps a bit dim-witted, they had a vital role to play.

Turning his attention back to the sanctuary, Canna called out, "Solara! Come here."

Off in the distance, Solara, the enormous grey wolf, had been lying lazily on a patch of grass, watching the slow migration of the blossom shells with mild amusement. She padded over, her large paws making almost no sound on the soft earth. "Yes, Master?" she responded, dipping her head respectfully.

Canna glanced at Arborath and then back to Solara. "I've come to this forest in search of your pack. Do you know where they are?"

Arborath tilted his head thoughtfully, his glowing eyes scanning Solara for a moment. "A disaster rank grey wolf," he mused. "I did see some grey wolves passing through my territory to the south, near the river. That would be a good place to start."

Solara's eyes brightened with hope. "Thank you, Arborath," she said gratefully, her tail giving a small wag. Canna made a mental note to visit the southern river soon.

After eight long hours, the migration of the blossom shells finally came to an end. It had been an incredibly slow process, with the inhabitants of the sanctuary helping guide the sluggish creatures along. Many had taken to standing by the portals to gently prod the blossom shells forward when they stopped to nibble on grass, blocking the way for the others.

As Canna surveyed the sanctuary, he noticed something unusual. Among the countless blossom shells, there were other creatures—rare, docile creatures that he had never seen before. Arborath chuckled at Canna's curiosity.

"Ah, I see you've noticed my other companions," Arborath said with a smile. "These creatures, while rare, are harmless and will add even more life to your domain."

First, Canna spotted creatures that resembled cows, but they were far more striking. Their fur was a brilliant green, blending perfectly with the grassy landscape, and their tails ended in large, leafy fronds. Arborath introduced them as Verdant Grazers. "They're gentle creatures, herbivores that help maintain the balance of the grasslands. Their droppings even encourage plant growth.

Quite handy, I'd say."

Next, Canna's eyes fell upon small, furry creatures scampering about on two legs. They had the appearance of chinchillas but were much larger, about the size of rabbits, and their fur shimmered with a faint, iridescent glow. Arborath introduced them as Glimmerfluffs. "These little ones are quite skittish but harmless.

They're nocturnal creatures that emit a soft light at night, making them a lovely sight in the evening."

Flitting about in the air, Canna saw what looked like tiny fairies. They were small, winged creatures that left trails of glittering dust in their wake as they fluttered from flower to flower. Their wings shimmered like rainbows, and their laughter echoed softly in the breeze. Arborath smiled warmly. "Those are Spritewings. They help pollinate the plants and keep the ecosystem in balance.

Their dust also has mild healing properties when inhaled."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Then, Canna noticed creatures that looked like small, bipedal armadillos, their armored backs covered in tough, stone-like scales. Arborath called them Rockclads. "They are peaceful, burrowing creatures, excellent at aerating the soil and keeping the underground passages healthy. They're very good at avoiding conflict, but when threatened, they can roll into a ball and become almost indestructible."

Finally, Canna spotted an adorable little creature that looked like a squirrel, but its tail was covered in flowers rather than fur. It was darting between trees, its movements quick and playful. Arborath introduced it as a Petalhopper. "These little ones are great for spreading seeds and pollinating flowers. They're playful and curious, but never aggressive."

Canna marveled at the new creatures, each one adding a unique charm to his domain. "They're incredible, Arborath. And you say they won't cause any trouble?"

Arborath nodded. "They are peaceful creatures by nature. As long as they aren't antagonized, they will coexist with your people and the sanctuary's ecosystem in harmony."

Canna smiled, grateful for the rich diversity Arborath had brought to his domain. He could already envision how these creatures would fit into the sanctuary, contributing to its growth and stability.

As the last of the creatures settled into the sanctuary, Arborath floated beside Canna, observing the peaceful scene below. "I have entrusted you with much, young Harbinger," Arborath said softly. "But I trust that you will take care of them, and in return, they will help your sanctuary flourish."

Canna nodded. "I'll make sure they're well looked after. This sanctuary is not just for me—it's for all who call it home."

The ancient turtle smiled. "Good. That's what I had hoped to hear."

As they watched the sanctuary come to life, filled with new creatures and vibrant energy, Canna couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride and responsibility. This was his sanctuary, and with Arborath's help, it had become even more beautiful and diverse. The future of his domain was bright, and he couldn't wait to see how it would continue to grow.

Arborath looked out over the landscape, his eyes filled with a mixture of nostalgia and contentment. "My kin are safe here. I can finally rest easy, knowing they have a future. You've done well, Canna Yakane."

Canna smiled. "Thank you, Arborath. I'll take care of them—and your domain—as if they were my own."

The ancient turtle nodded, satisfied. "Then my time here is almost done. I've spent a lot of energy, I'll rest within the kingdom and you may visit the river to the south. Once again, safe travels young harbringer"
