Amidst the chaotic ruins, Fang Mo silently changed into a new pair of pants.
He wondered if he had arrived too early, considering the devastated surroundings. Touching his forehead, Fang Mo realized that the X-Men timeline extended far back, unexpectedly throwing him into the World War II era. He found this time period to be too distant.
The only storyline that came to Fang Mo's mind was the persecution of a young Magneto by Sebastian Shaw. However, he had been informed that Magneto had long since left Auschwitz. After awakening his abilities, Magneto disappeared, and even Sebastian didn't know his whereabouts.
"Damn, why couldn't they send me to ancient Egypt?" Fang Mo complained, rubbing his temples. "Facing off directly against the first mutant, Apocalypse..."
Despite the headache, Fang Mo knew he had to get things done.
In a previous encounter, Fang Mo had fought with Sebastian, leveling the entire Auschwitz. However, he discovered that the Almighty Push was not suitable for a one-on-one battle.
It wasn't a matter of power; the battlefield had become too chaotic, filled with debris and ruins. Fang Mo had been digging in the soil for a while but couldn't find Sebastian. He didn't know if Sebastian was dead or had managed to escape. All the clues had been disrupted.
To be honest, Fang Mo wasn't well-versed in the X-Men series. In the years leading up to his death, the Avengers had gained more popularity. Although he had seen X-Men, he couldn't recall the plot clearly.
The only thing Fang Mo remembered was that Professor X, Charles, seemed to be in New York, USA. It was the opening scene of the first X-Men movie, where Magneto was persecuted in a concentration camp in the same year when Professor X met and lived with Mystique in New York.
However, Fang Mo couldn't help but consider the stark contrast in their lives. Professor X had grown up with a girl, living a seemingly luxurious life in a large mansion without lacking food or clothing. He must have been quite content.
On the other hand, Magneto had suffered as a child, toiling in a concentration camp, barely clothed. He was persecuted by Sebastian Shaw, forced to witness his own mother's execution to trigger his powers. It was no wonder Magneto's personality had become twisted.
To be honest, Magneto's desire to slaughter humans rather than mutants was already considered better.
"It's New York again..." Fang Mo sighed, making up his mind to go there and investigate.
Although Fang Mo didn't know Professor X's current whereabouts, he had a hunch that the professor must live in a large house and might be well-known in the area. Perhaps he would find something if he inquired.
With that plan in mind, Fang Mo decided to find a way to travel to the United States. However, before searching for young Charles, he had another task to complete.
Professor X was known as one of the most powerful telepathic mutants in the world, with abilities like mind reading and hypnosis. Fang Mo couldn't approach him without precautions.
In the original work, Magneto had a helmet that shielded against telepathic sensing.
However, that helmet originally belonged to Sebastian Shaw, and at the current point in time, it was clear that Sebastian hadn't acquired the helmet yet. Fang Mo needed to come up with an alternative solution.
Originally, Fang Mo had considered using the Mind Stone. Yet, when he took out the Mind Scepter and pried open the protective casing, he found it had turned into an ordinary gem. Undeterred, Fang Mo also retrieved the Tesseract, crushed the outer shell, and extracted the Space Stone inside. However, the Space Stone faced the same problem. Though beautiful, it had lost its previous functions and become a simple gem.
"Ah, this..." Fang Mo stared at the two gems in surprise.
He vaguely recalled an explanation from the Time Variance Authority in Loki's series. The Infinity Stones were indeed powerful artifacts, but they were only effective in their original universe. It was similar to carrying an air conditioner remote control outside your home; it had no use.
Realizing the Infinity Stones were not a viable option, Fang Mo needed to find another way. He decided to search through Steve's backpack while making his way slowly toward New York, experiencing the customs and practices of the era. He took trains and planes, taking his time to study and immerse himself in this time period.
His journey yielded significant results. Although he couldn't find any items to shield against mental attacks, Fang Mo discovered some other fascinating characteristics.
Let's start with the enchantment system. Fang Mo found that after materializing, the enchantment table transformed into a table capable of enchanting real-world items. It was larger than the enchantment table in the game, estimated to be a 2x2 structure. The base consisted entirely of obsidian, adorned with runes that Fang Mo couldn't understand. The tabletop was coated with gold and covered with a layer of red velvet cloth. Four diamond-shaped pale blue gems were embedded in the corners.
When materialized, the enchantment table no longer allowed Steve to right-click and open the interface. Instead, Fang Mo felt a strange connection to the table, as if by instinct.
He placed lapis lazuli blocks on the table and casually put a handgun in the center of the red velvet cloth. A strange power emanated from Fang Mo, transforming into golden rays of light that merged into the gun.
After the last trace of golden light vanished, a faint purple and gold glow enveloped the ordinary handgun. Fang Mo picked it up, instantly grasping an abstract concept.
It was challenging to put into words, but he felt a mystical and inexplicable sensationan enigmatic and irrational magic. The essence of the gun had changed, unlike the straightforward and crude settings in the game. It felt like a distortion and interference caused by real-world magic.
If he had to explain it using the game's professional terms...
The gun had gained an enchantment called "Infinity."
