Chapter 374: Terrance’ Bug Type Team
If Terrance wanted to write a thesis, there were many factors to consider. First of all, the Pokémon at Crown Academy would have to be transferred to him, and then he would personally nurture them for a period of time.
As for his own Pokémon, Terrance wasn’t yet sure which one of them would be future Gym members.
At the Pokémon Center in Rogge City, Terrance connected with Akon in Crown Academy via video call and had a portion of the Pokémon transferred over.
In just two months, a Wurmple had evolved into Beautifly, while another Wurmple had evolved into Dustox.
Caterpie successfully evolved into Butterfree, and Weedle into Beedrill.
Even Scatterbug had reached its final evolution stage—Vivillon!
In just over two months, the core strength of the Gym had begun to take shape.
However, Surskit, Spinarak, and Pineco were still at their initial stage due to their slower growth rates, which was within Terrance’s expectations.
In one go, Terrance transferred all the Pokémon except Beautifly back to Akon, leaving them to continue training at the academy. He then had the five fully evolved Pokémon sent over.
Since obtaining the League certified Trainer ID, the information of all his Poké Balls was bound to his personal details, activating the transfer function. Without this, he wouldn’t be able to enjoy the treatment services at Pokémon Center or other facilities. This situation will likely only change once Terrance’s Gym Trainer status is fully approved. At that time, he can set the transfer location to the Gym, specifically in the area around Fallarbor Gym, and won’t have to worry about the limit on the number of Poké Balls he can carry.
…..
In the forest…
The wind rustled through the leaves, creating a soft, whispering sound.
As a light flashed, the young man released a Beautifly.
“After working so hard for such a long time, as a senior, you mustn’t embarrass yourself in front of the juniors,” Terrance teased with a cheerful smile as he looked at Beautifly.
Beautifly fluttered around casually for a few moments before letting out a soft cry, signaling its readiness to take on the role of a teacher.
For this moment, Beautifly had spent the past two months figuring out how to become an excellent instructor. It was determined to make the newly arrived Bug Pokémon under Terrance’s care completely obedient and respectful.
Seeing Beautifly’s confident expression, Terrance chuckled and tossed out five more Poké Balls.
In an instant, five beams of light flashed, and five different Pokémon appeared before Terrance.
The Beautifly, primarily black and gray with aqua blue compound eyes and a pair of dazzling wings, curiously observed its smaller counterpart perched on Terrance’s shoulder. This smaller Beautifly lacked the aggressive gaze typical of its kind, instead exuding a calm demeanor.
Beside it, a Pokémon that looks unremarkable, with three black dots on its yellow compound eyes was flying around, its green wings flapping continuously.
This was Dustox.
Soon after, a Butterfree with large white wings marked by black veins and deep red compound eyes that seemed to draw one in let out a cry, scanning its surroundings.
Meanwhile, Beedrill flew steadily in the air, its wings vibrating, and its two big and thick white stingers stood in front of its body, looking quite imposing.
“So this is… the Ocean Pattern,” Terrance said with an appreciative look as his eyes settled on Vivillon. Its deep blue wings with black border set this Vivillon apart from others. Though he had already learned of its wing pattern, seeing it again in person still intrigued him.
“This is our first meeting in person, so let me introduce myself again. I am your Trainer from now on, Terrance.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Terrance had seen these little guys during video calls with Akon, but only the Beautifly that had hatched first had met him in person before.
The five Pokémon let out cheerful cries. Having been raised by humans, they felt no aversion to becoming a human’s Pokémon. Terrance was relieved that none of them have a strange temperament.
“You already know why you’re here, right? You’ll be undergoing real training from now on.” Terrance looked at the five Pokémon, his previously gentle expression turning stern “I won’t acknowledge any of you who can’t keep up.”
“Of course, the training plan I’ve created will be gradual. But if, during the training or at any time, someone doesn’t enjoy this kind of life, they’re free to leave,” he added.
The five Pokémon, startled by Terrance’s sudden change in demeanor, quickly nodded in unison, unsure why their Trainer had become so serious.
Though Terrance believed he could raise any Pokémon effectively, he understood that some Pokémon, due to their personalities, might dislike battling. There are even instances where some Pokémon are simply hopeless. While he can treat each Pokémon seriously and is confident in raising any Pokémon, this doesn’t mean he will put in endless effort.
The relationship between a Trainer and their Pokémon has always been one of mutual reliance and growth. If only one side strives, the partnership is doomed to not last long.
If a Pokémon wanted Terrance’s full dedication, and it wasn’t one that had been with him when he had nothing, nor did it possess exceptional talent or a desire to improve, then Terrance wouldn’t see the point in expending his energy on it.
So, Terrance made everything clear from the beginning when dealing with the five newly companions that were born not long ago.
It was better to explain everything clearly before any strong bonds were formed.
“Next, I’ll assess the moves you currently know. Other than the ones I’ve told you, there’s no need to practice other moves going forward,” Terrance said as he pulled out his Pokédex and turned his attention to the Little Beautifly.
This name, “Little Beautifly,” was chosen by Terrance to differentiate it from the larger one based on size.
“String Shot, Absorb, Stun Spore, Silver Wind…”
“For now, focus on practicing these four moves.”
Next was Dustox.
“String Shot, Poison Powder, Silver Wind…” Terrance paused, then added, “While practicing these three moves, I’ll also assist you in learning Confusion.”
“This move is crucial,” Terrance repeated again, wanting Dustox to have an impression of the Confusion move.
Then, looking at Butterfree, he continued, “String Shot, Sleep Powder, Silver Wind, Supersonic. Like Dustox, you’ll need to learn Confusion as well.”
“As for Poison Powder and Stun Spore, stop using them until you’ve fully mastered Sleep Powder. Otherwise, it will lower the purity of your scales.”
For Beedrill, Terrance scratched his head before saying, “You only need to focus on Twinneedle and flight speed for now.”
“We will discuss the subsequent training at a later date.”
Finally, with Vivillon, Terrance assigned it to prioritize practicing String Shot, Sleep Powder, and Supersonic.
These Pokémon, due to receiving little training under Akon’s care, haven’t learned many moves. They have no battle experience, relying entirely on nutrition from their diet to grow to their current stage.
Thus, Terrance needed to start their training from the basics.
However, with Beautifly’s guidance, the four only need to practice String Shot and various powder-based moves; they don’t need to worry too much.
It won’t take long for Beautifly to be able to impart its experience of String Shot and insights on using various powder-based moves to them. As long as they learn a part of it first, laying a solid foundation will be very easy.
As for Beedrill, Terrance envisioned a completely different battle style for it compared to the others. So, he was preparing to create a completely new training plan specifically for it.
However, before comprehending new moves, it’s essential to focus on basic training.
