207. Caffeine
207. Caffeine
After her small prayer Tomoka ran away as fast as she could. She didn’t want to know what her mother would do once she calmed down enough. Not to mention, she still had stuff to do, it's because she is very busy and isn’t avoiding the reckoning that is to come, not at all. Anyway, there is still around an hour before they land. Naruko and Satsuki should be waking up any moment now.
With that in mind Tomoka began walking towards the room of the two “kidnapped” gals. It so happens that on the way she met Hinata and Nozomi who had gone on their way to the cafeteria after checking up on the other two who had still been asleep at the time. Hinata was devouring a rather massive hot dog while Nozomi took sips from an extra large cup of cappuccino.
“How did it go?” Nozomi, whose mouth wasn’t full to the brim with food, asked with a relaxed expression. The girl somehow gets sleepy after consuming caffeinated drinks. Before answering Tomoka snatched the large cup of cappuccino before downing half of it in a few gulps.
“That bad?” Unlike Nozomi who became relaxed and sleepy after consuming caffeine, Tomoka became a drunken mess. For some reason her body can’t adapt to the effects of caffeine or simply refuses to do so. She is already immune to the effects of alcohol but caffeine is a sure fire way to get her drunk.
“I blame Hinata!” Tomoka said with a bit of slur to her words already. Before she could down the rest of the cup Nozomi took it back.
“What did I do?” Hinata had to swiftly swallow her food after hearing Tomoka. The girl was being unreasonable and becoming drunk wasn’t helping at all.
“You spanked my ass!” In contrast to her angry tone Tomoka dove into Hinata’s chest mumbling something along the lines of: “Reparations for physiological abuse”. To say the other two were amused would be an understatement, not to mention confused too.
“Alright, Tomoka, you aren’t making any sense. What happened?” Nozomi asked after receiving a pleading look from Hinata.
“Don wana talk bout it.” Tomoka said while trying to take the coffee cup from Nozomi’s hands once again. It took the better part of ten minutes for Tomoka’s inebriated state to subside. Despite being able to get drunk with small amounts of caffeine the effect doesn’t last long.
“Sorry about that, but I really don’t want to talk about it.” Once Tomoka was back to normal she said with a reddened face. Seeing Tomoka in that state the two girl’s curiosity got stoked yet they decided to interrogate her at a later date to let her cool down.
“We should get going. Naruko and Satsuki are waking up.” Finding an excuse to escape, Tomoka began walking at a brisk pace in the direction of the mentioned girls’ room. A few minutes later Tomoka knocked on the metal door of the girls’ room. Her surveillance system had already informed her that both were awake and examining the room while talking.
“Uh, come in.” From inside Naruko’s voice came followed by the quick berating of Satsuki. A moment later the heavy metal door wooshed to the side showing the two girls. Naruko’s bright blue eyes looked towards Tomoka’s group with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. Meanwhile Satsuki’s eyes quickly turned into their sharingan state followed by its evolution.
“Well, for starters, congratulations on evolving your sharingan Satsuki.” Tomoka said with a smug grin. Her words were like a slap for Satsuki who began looking around the room for what Tomoka presumed would be or work as a mirror. With an internal laugh Tomoka waved her hand forming an ice mirror at her side.
“Is… is this really… how? Why? I don’t… understand.” Satsuki began mumbling as she inspected her eyes. Tomoka couldn’t help but note that her sharingan looked pretty much the same as in cannon with some minor differences here and there. Mainly that the triangular points weren’t as pointy but more rounded instead. It is a very subtle change really.
“Love, that is how. The sharingan evolves under special circumstances. It is a power with an insidious price. The body protects itself from harm by making its acquisition almost impossible under normal circumstances.
It is often said that hate and love are two sides of the same coin. In the past, most of its users have awakened the mangekyou sharingan by feeling extreme hate and sadness. However, it isn’t the only option. Love is also a valid option. To love to the point of madness, to the point of forgetting oneself for the sake of the other. When you would be willing to live for another. Dying for another is easy, living, not so much.” Finishing her little lecture Nozomi gave both Satsuki and Naruko a teasing smile.
The other two girls became red like tomatoes, understanding the meaning behind Nozomi’s words. Satsuki felt a tsunami of emotions assaulting her. Gratitude towards Nozomi, frustration as well. She wanted to go out and breathe out a massive fireball to discharge her emotions. Even so, she didn’t lose sight of her goal, her revenge. Now she is a step closer to avenging her clan, her family.
“Well, I guess now is my turn to deliver some… bad news? Neutral news? Whatever. Listen closely Satsuki, as I am going to deliver some very important information for you. After that I will do the same for you, Naruko okay?” Taking a deep breath Tomoka began speaking again.
“Your brother didn’t massacre your clan out of some stupid thing like testing his strength or something as retarded as that- Shut up and listen, I will let you ask as much as you want once I am done.” Tomoka quickly interrupted Satsuki before she could start. The deep frown she held made obvious her dissatisfaction and disagreement with Tomoka’s words.
“He had been working as an ANBU by the code name weasel. Your clan had been planning a coup against the third Hokage. They had been oppressed for the longest time, and their role as the Konoha police made things even worse for them. They had been driven to a corner and so they chose poorly. HOWEVER!” Once Tomoka raised her voice to prevent Satsuki’s attempt at interrupting her.
“Most if not all of the suppression your clan experienced in the last five decades can be attributed to a single person: Danzo Shimura. He was also the one that gave the mission of massacring your whole clan to your brother. Your brother was a kind hearted naive fool totally loyal to Konoha.
He knew that his clan would die off anyway should the coup happen, not to mention the many deaths of other Konoha personnel and civilians the conflict would cause. He accepted becoming the villain of the story with a single condition. That you would be protected and left outside of Danzo’s scheming.”
Satsuki clenched her fists tight enough to draw blood. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing yet it made far more sense when she thought about it. It made more sense for her kind brother to do something like this than to go crazy and massacre their family for the reasons he gave. Yet there is something that doesn’t fit in the story.
“Then how is Nozomi alive?” Hearing Satsuki’s question, Nozomi smiled while intertwining her fingers with Tomoka’s. The memory of the event brought a mixture of sadness and happiness from the past. The death of her clan saddened deeply , yet the knowledge that Tomoka risked her life to save her made her happy.
“Tomoka saved me. She had been aware of the happenings back then-” Suddenly the room was drenched in thick killing intent as Satsuki turned towards Tomoka with hatred filled eyes.
“WHY!?” She was a step away from attacking Tomoka when Naruko’s hand held her own. The familiar touch was enough to bring some calm back to Satsuki’s mind. She still wanted answers and she would have them now no matter what.
“What could I do back then, Satsuki. I was nothing more than a child. No matter how smart or talented I am, I was still a child. The Hokage was on it as well so telling the old man wouldn’t have changed anything. Telling the Uchiha? Then the coup would have happened earlier and all hell would have broken loose with even more death. Tell random ninjas around? They would take me as a child making up stores. My hands were tied.”
Tomoka’s explanation made sense, even so the frustration Satsuki felt wouldn’t go away. She wanted to believe that there was something Tomoka could have done to prevent the massacre. Unfortunately once she placed herself in Tomoka’s place she understood that there was nothing she could have done. With a heavy sigh Satsuki calmed herself down. The embers of hatred were still there just a lot cooler now.
“I don’t know if I can trust you. I will still hunt down Itachi. I will get my answers directly from his mouth.” Satsuki made up her mind. Even if Itachi had been ordered to do so. Even if it had been the best option at the time he still needed to pay.
“I don’t mind. I will hand you the files with the entire story and information once we land. Things are a lot more complicated than what I have just said. There are a lot of small details I have skipped. Take your time to analyze the information later.” With that done Tomoka turned towards Naruko.
“I want you to answer sincerely since I would rather not explain things you already know. So, are you aware about the kyuubi being sealed inside you?”
“Yes.” The perverted old man had told him about the kyubi when he was being trained.
“Are you aware that you only have one half inside you? I have the other half.” This he knew as well. The old pervert had told him that much when he told her about the kyubi. Back then she had wondered why her treatment and Tomoka’s treatment by the villagers was so different.
“Next, are you aware that your father was the fourth Hokage?”
“What!?” That was new information. She was the daughter of the fourth? Why had no one told her before! Who else knew? Did everyone know except her? Did… did Sastsuki know? Turning to the side she saw Satsuki’s surprised expression, seeing this she felt a bit better.
“Alright, so your father the fourth Hokage sealed the Kyubi inside you and me when we were babies. This happened because the previous jinchuuriki, kushina Uzumaki’s seal became weakened while giving birth to you. Normally the Kyubi wouldn’t have been able to escape even with the seal weakened. However, someone attacked at that moment, an Uchiha to be precise. He finished unsealing the Kyubi and controlled it using the mangekyou sharingan.”
“How do you know it was an Uchiha?” Satsuki asked the question instantly.
“As I have said, things are a lot more complicated than normal. Go read the whole thing once it's delivered and if you have questions after I don’t mind answering.” Tomoka didn’t feal like explaining the whole fucking plot and plotting of the Narutoverse.
“Anyway, as the sealing was about to be finished the Kyubi tried to kill you and me. Your parents used their bodies to stop him resulting in their deaths. With all of this said, you need to understand that most if not all that you know about the Kyubi is wrong.” Now it was time for Tomoka to make a small gamble.
“Kurama if you would.” After saying that Tomoka closed her eyes for a moment before opening them up again. instead of the usual pink orbs a pair of red ones with slit pupils appeared.
“[Bah, couldn’t you have just pulled the brat into the mindscape? Why do I have to have a chat with her]” Kurama’s deep rumbly voice came out of Tomoka’s lips as her body moved to cross her arms with a displeased expression. Suddenly, one of the red eyes turned pink as Tomoka’s normal voice came out.
“We already talked about this grumpy fox so don’t start complaining now.” The pink eye turned red again as the deep rumbling voice was back.
“[Whatever, so, the name is Kurama, don't wear it out. I am the yin half that is “sealed” inside Tomoka. The yang side of me is sealed inside of you. By the way, yang side if you are listening you better behave or she will smack you around like she did with Shukaku.]” Once Kurama finished speaking he retreated back into the mindscape he had been having a wonderful dream before Tomoka woke him up for this.
“Was… was the Kyubi?” Naruko couldn’t believe it. Her Kyubi was an asshole through and through. This one looked a lot calmer if a bit grumpy.
“Yup, we are pals though the lazy fox sleeps most of the time.”
[Oi! No need to tell her that!] Ignoring the grumpy fox, Tomoka kept talking.
“So, wanna go meet your Kurama, by the way that’s his name but don’t use it unless he lets you, the grumpy fox doesn’t like it when others use his name without his permission. You are invited as well, Satsuki.” Naruko and Satsuki just dumbly nodded their heads still processing the events they had just witnessed.
“Great, then please sit comfortably and we will get started.” Tomoka couldn’t wait to smack around Yang Kurama, not like she would tell that to the fox in question or anybody for that matter.
