Once, I wanted to be a good person

Chapter 139 7. The enemy is causing trouble! _2

Before long, the meeting concluded.

Fang Ze and Bai Ling ignored the gazes of others as they walked out together.

Once outside the meeting room and seeing that no one was around, the two began to chat in low voices.

Bai Ling apparently was quite upset about so many people not giving face to Bai Zhi and Fang Ze, and grumbled in a low voice, "Fang Ze, let me tell you, I feel like someone is targeting you?"

Fang Ze responded with a noncommittal "Oh?"

Perhaps fearing that Fang Ze wouldn't believe her, Bai Ling continued softly, "You mustn't disbelieve."

"Before the meeting began, I'd already heard many people discussing you."

"Although the new Commissioner's information, intelligence, and level aren't classified, you must know that your achievements and record were only reported by Sister Bai Zhi yesterday afternoon."

"It was approved last night, and in less than a few hours, everyone knew?"

"It's clear that someone deliberately leaked it, wanting to stir up trouble."

Fang Ze hadn't known about this before, so he had been puzzled as to why so many Commissioners were resisting him. Now, after hearing what Bai Ling said, he finally understood the reason...

It seemed... indeed there were people who didn't want to make things easy for him.

But... as for who it might be and what their intention was, Fang Ze didn't know.

After all, there were too many people who could be targeting him.

Supporters of Gu Qing, those who disliked Bai Zhi, those who didn't want Bai Zhi to become the Director, those he had violated regulations to remove Director Pang, the bureaucratic system that was displeased with him, or perhaps... the Shadow Organization, which smuggled "Qin 28" and wielded huge influence in the Governing Hall, Investigation Bureau, and Security Bureau....

All were possibilities.

However, since he was still powerless at the moment and had no other options, he could only grow stronger as quickly as possible and then deal with things as they came...

...

While Fang Ze was contemplating this.

On the fifth floor of the Security Bureau, Bai Zhi was suppressing the fury from being slighted earlier. She had a reserved and polite smile on her face as she was seeing off representatives from the Governing Hall and people from the higher echelons of the Security Bureau.

Just then, a young man from the Governing Hall seemed to remember something all of a sudden, standing still before turning to Bai Zhi with a smile, "Wait a moment, Director Bai."

Bai Zhi stopped, puzzled.

She then saw the young man looking at a middle-aged woman and with a beaming smile, he said, "Director Qing, have you forgotten to announce something?"

On hearing his words, the middle-aged woman looked at him expressionlessly, then said, "I was planning to announce it after you left."

The young man said cheerily, "Come on, better make the announcement while I'm here. That way, it's easier for me to report back."

Bai Zhi watched the two exchange their cryptic conversation, unsure of what had transpired. But she had a feeling that something was amiss.

At that moment, the middle-aged woman fell silent for a while, and finally nodded.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

She then looked at Bai Zhi and began to speak slowly, "Director Bai, since the representatives from the Governing Hall would like to attend, I'd like you to summon Gu Qing, Xun Yi, and other senior managers of the Security Bureau, as well as Fang Ze.

"Let's have a brief meeting."

"There is a notice that I need to announce to you all."

Hearing the middle-aged woman's words, Bai Zhi paused, and a foreboding feeling grew stronger in her heart.

She nodded expressionlessly, then called over a Commissioner to notify the few people to meet on the fourth floor's small conference room.

Fang Ze received the notice while he was about to go out with Bai Ling for lunch.

Before he could respond to Bai Zhi's message about the meeting, Bai Ling eagerly asked first, "What about me? Me? Am I included?"

Bai Ling clearly had a good rapport within the Security Bureau. Although the Commissioner showed no warmth to Fang Ze, facing Bai Ling, he still spoke with a smile, "Specialist Bai Ling, Lady Bai Zhi did not mention you."

Bai Ling immediately huffed, hands on her hips.

She was the first to know Bai Zhi and the first to meet Fang Ze, but now they always excluded her, making her feel like an outsider! Infuriating!

So, she said to Fang Ze in a mock-angry tone, "I'm going to eat all your lunch! Humph!" and stormed off with an air of annoyance.

Watching her childishly retreating figure, Fang Ze shook his head helplessly and then politely said to the Commissioner, "Please lead the way."

The colleague's attitude toward Fang Ze was much cooler, giving a grunt through the nose and then leading Fang Ze expressionlessly towards the conference room on the fourth floor.

Upon arriving at the conference room, Fang Ze realized it wasn't just him and Bai Zhi present; there were also several other high-ranking officials whose status was evident at a glance.

Such as the middle-aged woman from the senior Security Bureau who had come to observe, the young man from the Governing Hall, Gu Qing, the bespectacled woman Xun Yi, and a few senior officers sitting in the front row.

Among them, Fang Ze's status was the most out of place.

So, in just an instant, he guessed the real purpose of the meeting: It was for him....

Combining this with what Bai Ling had said earlier, Fang Ze thought that perhaps... the person pulling the strings behind the scenes was preparing to make another move?

With this in mind, Fang Ze greeted the officials with a smile, then closed the door and obediently took his seat next to Bai Zhi.

Seeing that everyone had arrived, the middle-aged woman looked around the meeting room and after a cough said, "In addition to announcing the arrangements for the Flower Morning Festival, I have another matter to announce."
