Book 2: Chapter 112: Five Bells
Vol 2 Ch 112: Five Bells
"Mo Hong, what are you trying to do?"
Before the Stone Cloud Temple Master could speak, Qian Yuhuan, who was beside him, nearly lost his composure, his soul almost leaping out in anxiety.
The holder of the Sky Azure Wanchang Card, the most esteemed guest of the Wanchang Gate, if he were to die here, he wouldn’t even need to live anymore. He would definitely be torn into pieces by people sent from headquarters.
A powerful surge of energy erupted from within him, and as he took a step forward, he was about to charge ahead to stop them. But then, he saw a flash of blade light, with Mo Baiye standing in front.
"Master Qian, they are in a duel. It wouldn't be appropriate for you to rush in like this!" Mo Baiye said.
Qian Yuhuan narrowed his eyes. "Mo Baiye, are you going to stop me?"
Mo Baiye shook his head. "Not at all, Master Qian. How could I dare stop you? I just don’t want the duel to be interrupted. Don’t worry, Mo Hong knows what he’s doing…"
Qian Yuhuan snorted coldly. "He better know what he’s doing, or if Young Master Zhang is hurt even a little, I won’t hesitate to wipe out the Mo Dao Sect!"
"This…" Mo Baiye’s eyelid twitched. Though filled with anger, he dared not speak further.Although Mo Baiye was a Sixth-Level Star River realm expert, he was still far from being a match for Qian Yuhuan, especially since the latter was supported by Wanchang Gate. If Qian Yuhuan truly wanted to kill him, even Stone Temple Master couldn’t save him.
However, the threat did provide Mo Baiye with one clear piece of information: Zhang Xuan's identity was definitely extraordinary. Otherwise, Qian Yuhuan would not be so protective.
This only reinforced Mo Baiye’s earlier suspicion.
Not knowing that Mo Baiye had deliberately blocked Qian Yuhuan, Zhang Xuan's gaze was fixed tightly on the blade light before him.
Whoosh!
With a powerful stomp, Zhang Xuan shot forward toward the blade light.
It seemed like he wasn’t avoiding it but charging straight into it, almost seeking death. As long as Mo Hong did not retract his blade light, Zhang Xuan would be split in half on the spot.
Just as everyone was on edge, Mo Hong’s blade light descended. Only then did the crowd realize that the tip of the sharp Mo Dao was less than a centimeter from Zhang Xuan's nose, just barely missing.
It was as though the movement had been perfectly timed, not a single hair’s breadth off.
“How is this possible?”
Mo Hong’s pupils contracted as he continued to swing the blade. Each strike became fiercer than the last, the wind howling, and the onlookers dared not approach, retreating to over thirty meters away.
However, no matter how fierce his blade techniques were, Zhang Xuan dodged them by the smallest margins, causing each of Mo Hong’s strikes to miss completely.
"Impressive!" Yan Thirty-Three could no longer speak.
At that moment, he understood that the so-called "first place" he had was nothing compared to the opponent’s strength.
"This must be the real first place on the Star River Potential List?"
"Yeah, it's terrifying. No wonder he can comprehend Destiny…"
The people who had mocked him before were now filled with embarrassment.
Only now did they realize, when compared to Zhang Xuan, their so-called talents were nothing but trash, like tortoises.
The crowd was stunned, but Zhang Xuan had beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Normally, even though his talent was extraordinary, the gap in strength between him and Mo Hong was simply too large. Without burning the New World, he would have never been able to hold out. But Mo Hong was using Mo Dao, and since Zhang Xuan had comprehended the third stage, he gained the upper hand in this moment.
This meant that Zhang Xuan could predict each of Mo Hong’s attacks in advance and respond accordingly. But this was the limit; he couldn't retaliate.
Unless… he used Pathos of Heaven or burned the New World!
"Mo Hong, that’s enough!" Just as Zhang Xuan was on the verge of being unable to hold on any longer, Mo Baiye’s voice rang out.
Whoosh!
The Mo Dao stopped, and Mo Hong retreated a few steps.
From this, it was clear that Mo Hong was still holding back some strength.
"To have such strength at such a young age, truly worthy of Young Master Zhang…" Mo Baiye smiled faintly and turned to Stone Cloud Temple Master and Master Qian, "Temple Master, Master Qian, I’ve completed the assessment. Young Master Zhang is truly extraordinary, worthy of his title. I’ll take my leave now."
"Go ahead!" Seeing that Mo Baiye hadn’t harmed anyone, Qian Yuhuan nodded in satisfaction, and Stone Cloud Temple Master waved casually.
Mo Baiye said no more and walked out.
"Master, why did you make me stop? If I had continued, I could have forced out more of his moves…" Mo Hong, following behind his teacher, was filled with confusion.
"No need," Mo Baiye shook his head. "He can predict every one of your moves in advance, showing that his comprehension of Mo Dao's Destiny surpasses yours. Continuing wouldn’t make any sense."
Mo Hong was shocked. "You mean…?"
Mo Baiye nodded. "Correct. He has comprehended Mo Dao’s Destiny to the third stage. The blade technique that Min Jiangtao used was taught to him by Zhang Xuan!"
"What should we do now?" Mo Hong clenched his fists.
Mo Baiye’s gaze flickered. "With Qian Yuhuan protecting him, it’s impossible to deal with him for now. Let’s wait for an opportunity. In just such a short time, he’s comprehended Mo Dao from the second stage to the third. His talent is indeed remarkable. It’s a pity… he shouldn’t have come to Zouyi City. If I didn’t know who he was, it would have been fine, but now that I know… don’t blame me for being rude!"
Since Destiny is singular and unyielding, as the host, I must act first and eliminate him. It seems I have to think about how to kill him without implicating myself…Nôv(el)B\\jnn
“Mo Baiye, what a surprise…”
Seeing Mo Baiye turn to leave, Qian Yuhuan once again looked at Zhang Xuan with admiration.
At this point, any doubts he had were completely erased. Zhang Xuan was undoubtedly the descendant of a major family. After all, it was impossible for someone who wasn’t from a powerful background to be at such a level—he had already surpassed Mo Hong, who was at the peak of the Star River Third Realm.
"Let’s go."
Qian Yuhuan gestured and walked quickly toward the side hall.
Stone Cloud Temple Master nodded in agreement, following closely behind.
“You all head back first…” Zhang Xuan instructed Sun Qiang and the others as he began to walk forward.
He figured, unless something unexpected happened, they wouldn’t need to compensate for anything for now…
“Yes!” Sun Qiang nodded and was about to leave with the others, but suddenly, a long, resonant bell rang from above.
The sound was loud and clear, echoing across all of Zouyi City, reverberating for at least dozens of miles.
“What’s happening?” Qian Yuhuan stopped in his tracks, instinctively looking up.
“What’s going on?” Stone Cloud Temple Master asked, confused, as he looked up as well.
At the highest point of Wanchang Gate, there was a large bell, which had not sounded for decades. So why was it ringing now, and with such intensity?
“This…” Qian Yuhuan froze for a moment, then suddenly recalled something. His pupils contracted, and his face changed color. “The bell rang five times, with three longs and two shorts… It’s bad! A master is here… Set up the formation!”
As his voice boomed, a beam of light enveloped the entire Wanchang Gate. In the blink of an eye, the defensive array activated.
“What’s happening? This time, it’s not my fault, right?” Zhang Xuan, also startled, couldn’t help but look toward the gate. Soon, an elder appeared out of nowhere, completely ignoring the defensive array, and slowly walked in.
