Chapter 56 Cultivation Techniques
56 Cultivation Techniques
Elder Lin would normally not allow such a thing while giving tours to the Outer Core Disciples, but seeing that William was escorted by the Sect Master himself, Elder Lin was curious to see what about this boy caught that stingy old man's eye.
"Go ahead boy, but don't take too long. I don't have all day to be guiding you."
William nodded and walked over to one of the empty training dummies. Hmm, what Element should I use?
The Sect Master said he would protect William while he was in the Sect, but greed will blind even the kindest people. He wasn't willing to show all his cards just yet.
I better keep it simple.
William decided to copy what the young man did earlier, but with a few changes. He focused some Mana of the Water Element to his fingertips, forming a spherical ball of water. He transformed the sphere into a flat disc similar to a frisbee, then added more Mana until the disc was spinning at high speed. The disc was thrown out. Elder Lin and some nearby disciples watched with surprise in their eyes as the water disc cut into the scarecrow, forming a long scratch at the base of the neck and turning it light green.
-Developed a new magic spell: +1 Potential Points
-New spell: Water Saw
One of the disciples whispered to the other, "Did that guy just modify a spell on the spot? He changed it's shape after it was already formed!"
"I don't know, but his Magic Talent must be at least D Rank! I don't even sense any Cultivation from him, is he a Manamatus?" Another disciple responded in a voice loud enough for some others to hear.
That last sentence triggered some thought in the others. "You're right! He isn't even a Cultivator!"
William was slightly disappointed. He realized that without the help of Arrays to boost his speed and power, some of his Magic couldn't quite keep up. Without his strongest Elements, William could only fight with Peak Foundation Establishment Realm or new Core Formation Realm Cultivators. "I'm going to try again if that's alright with you Elder."
Elder Lin nodded with a dazed look. He didn't realize the kid was actually a Manamatus, and a powerful one at that!
William looked over at the boy who smirked at him earlier and gave him the same smirk. He looked at the training dummy and called Fire Mana this time, forming a small fireball. He added more and more Mana until the fireball was the size of a car, lighting up the entire training area. "Oh my God, he's a dual Manamatus!" someone screamed.
"What is that fireball? It's too big!" "You can't just say things like that, people will misunderstand!" "Oh, sorry sorry. But look at the size of it!"
"..."
William could barely control the fireball at this point. He launched it forward, zipping through the sky at high speed until it blasted into the scarecrow. Even with the soundproofing, the disciples could hear a muffled explosion that the Arrays could not fully dissipate. As for the scarecrow, it lit up dark yellow. The fire took a few minutes to die down, and the scarecrow slowly returned to its original state.
Elder Lin collected his thoughts and gave Will a second look. It seemed that guiding this kid was a good idea after all. "I never asked your name, young man."
"Oh, it's William."
"Hmm, an interesting name. I think we've spent enough time here, disciple William." Elder Lin urged him to leave the training area before other Elders had time to hear of his prowess. William nodded. "Where are we going next, Elder?"
"You're not a Cultivator, so I think it's about time we changed that. We are going to our Sect's Great Hall."
William nodded. He would be more excited about picking a technique, but he hadn't even learned the Cultivation Talent yet. The technique is completely useless to him right now.
Elder Lin also noticed something off about William, but he didn't say anything. The pair didn't walk far before they arrived at the Great Hall Elder Lin mentioned.
The word great was an understatement. Sprawled out before William was a massive three floor palace with four halls of different lengths.
The inside was even more glamorous, with thousands of bookshelves littered with various Cultivation techniques. Just inside the entrance was a desk where a wrinkly old man wearing glasses was writing inside a notebook. The old man looked up from his work to see Elder Lin and William. "I haven't seen you before, are you a new disciple here for your Cultivation Technique?" Before William had a chance to say anything, Elder Lin spoke. "Yes Old Jur, and I am escorting him."
The old man looked surprised, "Why are you the escort of all people? And aren't these trips usually done with all the new disciples, and not just one?"
"It was the Sect Master's request." Elder Lin said flatly. He didn't really like old Jur, since forty years ago when Elder Lin was bullied by him. At that time old Jur was already an Inner Core Disciple, while Elder Lin had just joined the Sect.
But a long time had passed since then, and the Sect had strict rules against infighting among Elders and the sort.
Jur seemed to understand. So, another kid has caught that one's eye, huh? Now I'm curious.
He adjusted his glasses and closed the notebook; then spoke a series of instructions he had given hundreds if not thousands of times before. "As a new disciple, you are a valuable member of the Sect and will be granted a single Cultivation Technique from the first floor. You are not to step on the second or third floor, nor will you attempt to sneak an extra Cultivation Technique. If either of these rules are broken, you will be removed from the Sect and killed. Do you understand?" he ended his lecture with a stern look.
William nodded vigorously, "Yes Elder."
The old man gave a cheeky smile. "Don't be so formal, call me Old Jur, everyone else does anyway." "Okay Old Jur."
Elder Lin spoke to William. "Where would you like to start? You have the Water and Fire Elements, so perhaps a Cultivation Technique like the Song of Fire and Water will do?" William shook his head. "Are there any Cultivation Techniques that work for more than two Elements?"
Elder Lin was confused for a moment until he realized what William was hinting at. "Y-You...do you have another Element?" he felt that life was unfair. Could anyone be so lucky to be born a triple Manamatus? No wonder the Sect Master had taken interest in William!
William smiled but said nothing. He wondered how the Elders would react if they knew he had 11 Elements. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
William knew better than to reveal too much though. Even the all powerful Sect Master couldn't protect him all the time.
Jur spoke up, "I think I have just the thing for you, but it's on the third floor. You'll have to come back when you become a Core Disciple or an Elder. For now, there are two Cultivation Techniques for someone with up to three Elements, but they are for Fire, Wind, and Earth."
William nodded in understanding. The best Techniques wouldn't be kept on the first floor anyway, William was asking for too much. "I'll take a look at those then."
