I Became the Best Forensic Doctor After My Betrayal

Chapter 41 - 41 Looking for Trouble

41 Looking for Trouble

With the help of Zou Sheng and Wu Zheng, Shen Yin refroze the body parts to preserve them.

As soon as he left the autopsy room, Zou Sheng let go of his nose, which he had been pinching all this while. He leaned against the wall and gulped. Even in his sorry state, he remembered to give Shen Yin a thumbs up.

“Dr. Shen, I admire you so much now. From now on, you are my idol!”

“Don’t be so cheeky.” Shen Yin smiled and handed him a bottle of water. “Drink some water to calm yourself. Then try to catch some sleep. You’ve been busy all night. You have to take care of your health.”

“What about you?” Zou Sheng looked at her worriedly. She had just left the autopsy room, and now she was sitting in front of the computer. He tried to persuade her, “Sister Shen, you should rest too. You can write the autopsy report later.”

Shen Yin shook her head, and there was a hint of worry on her face. “No, I don’t like to procrastinate when it comes to my work. I’ll rest after I’m done and have handed the report to Captain Wu. Besides, my intuition tells me that this case isn’t that simple. It’s better to finish it quickly and not delay your investigation.”

“You’re really dedicated.” Zou Sheng nodded in admiration. Just as he was about to leave, he bumped into Meng Heng, who was carrying a bento box.

“Wow, it smells so good! Little Meng is so considerate. Let me see what delicious food you’ve prepared for me.”

“It’s not for you.” Meng Heng blushed in embarrassment. When he turned and saw Shen Yin’s gaze, he subconsciously raised the lunch box. “Sister, I thought you might not have time for breakfast, so I took the initiative to buy you a meal. Do you want to eat before you work?”

“Oh my, Little Meng, now that you have Sister Shen, you’ve forgotten about me. I haven’t eaten yet. I’ll eat with Dr. Shen.” Zou Sheng tried to grab the lunch box, but Meng Heng reacted quickly and slapped his hand away, protecting the fragrant food.

“Your share is in the office. Go back and eat.”

He placed the lunch box back on Shen Yin’s desk as if presenting a treasure. He looked uneasy, as if afraid that Shen Yin would reject him in front of Zou Sheng.

Shen Yin found their bickering amusing. Their commotion had reduced her fatigue a little. She raised her eyebrows and thanked Meng Heng gratefully.

She had been busy all morning and her stomach was growling. The moment she smelled the fragrant food, she realized she was extremely hungry.

Meng Heng smiled sweetly when saw that she was willing to eat the food he bought and he poured a cup of hot water for Shen Yin. “Sister, drink some hot water before eating. It’s good for your stomach.”

“Thank you.” Shen Yin took a sip and was about to open the bento box when her cell phone suddenly rang.

She suddenly had a bad feeling when she saw the unfamiliar caller ID. Without thinking, she avoided the two people in the office and walked to the window to answer the call.

“Shen Yin, it’s me.”

Shen Yin looked blankly out of the window, at the people coming and going from the police station. She knew the voice on the phone all too well. She had once treated her as a close friend, but she was afraid that the enmity between them was about to deepen.

“Yun Shan, what’s the matter?”

Yun Shan took a deep breath and blew out a smoke ring. “Shen Yin, I didn’t expect you to be so brave. After what happened back then, you still gave birth to that child of unknown origin!”

Shen Yin gripped the phone in her hand tightly. Yun Shan had found out about Shen Nian. She was not naive enough to think that Yun Shan was just calling her for a chat.

Six years ago, this woman had single-handedly framed her in order to catch her in bed with someone else. Six years later, she was calling her. Was Yun Shan trying to use her son as a bargaining chip because she could not control her?

“What are you trying to do? I’m warning you, if you dare to harm Nian Nian, I will never let you off. You should know how capable I am now.”

Yun Shan thought of her embarrassing visit to the autopsy room and paused for a moment. She felt a little wary, but when she thought of her and Lian Jing, she hardened her heart and pretended to say casually, “Don’t be so anxious. I’m a law-abiding citizen. I just want to ask you out for a meal.”

She chuckled. When Shen Yin did not refuse, she felt even more smug. “A person of your standing would know the Zixiang Pavilion right? I’ll wait for you there. See you, Dr. Shen.”

After hanging up, Shen Yin quickly typed something on the screen. Then, she turned around and looked at Meng Heng apologetically. “I’m sorry, I have to go out for a while. I’ll eat the food you bought when I come back, okay?”
