Chapter 442 – Finding the Paper
Max and Lily navigated through the crowd and found a map of the resort. This was their first plan after knowing Mr. Strange's way of playing games in his reality show.
"We will certainly be given a task. The first thing we have to do is to find clues and a map. By remembering the map, we will have a pretty good advantage over the others."
While they were looking at the map, a small camera floating in the air caught everything. Three of such cameras followed them from different angles to get the best shoot. One which stayed close to get their close-up expression.
As a gamer and a streamer, Max wanted to win this game while giving entertainment to those watching. So, he voiced his opinion instead of keeping it to himself unless it was to create tension.
"Mr. Strange said that he hid 5 papers around this resort, right? And each paper has different instructions to who finds them." Max said, looking at the map intently, "Do you notice something from this map that is related to that, Lily?"
"Hmm…" Humming audibly, Lily looked at the map. When she noticed this something Max talked about, she exclaimed, "Ah! There are 5 different areas in this resort."Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Indeed." Max nodded, a grin plastered on his face. "And we're currently in the common area, the one in the middle of all five different areas. We probably will find a clue on how to find those papers once we visit each area."
"Un, I think so too. The closest from here is…" Lily traced the star, where they were now, to the nearby area. "Restaurant?"
"Yeah, the smallest out of five." Max added, humming curiously. "Let's go there for now. I heard hurried footsteps from the other couples in the distance. They probably also realize this clue."
Praising other participants to make him look friendly was also important. But…
"Not that they are as fast as us, though."
Appearing confident was the most important. Max and Lily smiled at each other before they broke into running.
Among the three couples entering this reality show, only Lily wore long pants and clothes fit to move around. The others wanted to appear as pretty as possible, so they wore feminine clothes.
Lily didn't care about that. She knew that Max loved her style and she wouldn't change it for the audience. If they wanted to see her pretty and wore a dress, they should just visit her concert. That was the only place beside the party where she would wear something that embarrassing.
Before long, they arrived at the restaurant area. It was bustling with people trying to get a meal. But, it wasn't that crowded or bad. It was a normal condition as people who had just arrived at the resort chose to have breakfast here.
Max looked around to find a clue. He guessed Mr. Strange wouldn't make this too hard, considering the show was only for around 40 to 60 minutes. And indeed… they found the clue right away.
"Max, isn't that?" Lily pointed at a mascot waving at them. It was wearing a baseball cap, similar to Mr. Strange.
No matter how one looked at it, the mascot was so suspicious.
"I think that's our clue." Max nodded and approached the said mascot with Lily.
When they got close, the mascot raised its hand and moved around excitedly. It pointed at a certain direction. Max looked in that direction and saw a board.
"So we're playing it like that, huh?" He mused in interest, knowing that Mr. Strange wanted to make it easy but complicated.
"Another clue?" Lily asked.
"Yes." He nodded, "We're playing 'follow the trail'. At the end of this clue, we will find that paper." He explained it to Lily in the simplest way possible.
"I see." She nodded and smiled, "That sounds fun."
Following the realization, they approached the board and found another instruction.
"Clap your hands above your heads three times and then high five with your lover… Sounds simple." Max read the instructions and did it together with Lily.
This was truly a simple instruction. Lily seemed to enjoy the activity with him a lot.
After they high-fived, they laughed and a little girl approached them. She looked like she was about to cry.
"Umm, big brother, big sister. I-I am lost. Can you take me to a lost kid center, please?"
Max looked at Lily and she nodded.
"We can't leave her." She said and crouched, matching her gaze with the little girl. "Un, let's go."
She took her hand and began to walk to the lost child center in the restaurant area. Max was about to tell Lily that this might be the next clue, but he kept silent and followed from behind them.
'Well, it's better if she doesn't know. This will make people think that she does it out of goodwill and kindness.' He thought.
Just like other people, Max wanted to brag about his girlfriend's good points. And this was the perfect chance for that.
When they arrived at the lost child center, the girl was reunited by her mom. The older woman thanked Lily and Max before giving them a paper. Or rather, she just shoved the paper into their hands without giving them a chance to refuse.
"Please take this! Thank you very much."
"Bye, big sister!"
"Bye."
Both mother and child walked away as if to escape them. But the kid, having taken a liking to Lily after talking for a while, waved her hand excitedly.
After they disappeared from sight, Lily looked at Max.
"Shall we continue finding the paper?" She asked, oblivious of what just happened.
Max only smiled at her and said, "We don't need to. I already got it."
"Huh?" She gasped, "When?"
"Just now." He chuckled and raised the paper given by the mother earlier, "The paper given by the kid's mother earlier was the paper we are looking for. We have completed the first clue and will move to the next one."
"... So that child wasn't lost?"
"Yeah," Max nodded, "She was just a part of the clue. Her role is to guide us to the paper."
Hearing that, Lily sighed in relief.
"It's a good thing she wasn't lost." She said, "So, Max. Let's get to the next clue!"
Max chuckled at her energy. He was also glad that Lily wasn't dejected and even enjoyed this reality show a lot.
"Alright, let's go!"
