Chapter 352: Duty

Chapter 352 Duty

Naturally, Fang Hao and the rest were attracted to Xiang Ning’s fight. Especially the squad member that didn’t think too highly of Xiang Ning. He was dumbfounded. He knew Xiang Ning was strong, but he didn’t know the true extent of his strength!

In the past, he was slightly jealous of how Xiang Ning was still so young but had such incredible cultivation. He was even more jealous now, but his jealousy was tinged with a smidge of disbelief, shock, and worship.

Two minutes, that was what Xiang Ning had promised them and he hadn’t lied. He retrieved the Devourer, which had recovered, and his combat prowess skyrocketed. Not only was he attacking faster, but his attacks were also even fiercer.

The mutants were in disbelief that a martial artist that wasn’t even tier five had managed to kill half of their team. They knew Xiang Ning had some sort of breathing technique that could increase his strength, but he wasn’t even using it! They were deeply unsatisfied when they died.

As Xiang Ning was helping the rest to kill the remaining mutants, reinforcements arrived.

Looking at the Savage Sand Rats scrambling away and the reinforcements angrily killing them, the netizens were still thinking about the fight that had just taken place.

Once the dust had settled, everyone was excitedly chatting in the livestream. They had seen the video firsthand and wanted to share it with everyone they knew.

The journalist Zhao Zhongxian saw that reinforcements had arrived, so he decided to run down and interview Xiang Ning. “Hello Xiang Ning! I’m the independent journalist, Zhao Zhongxian. May I interview you?”

Xiang Ning was taken aback by the journalist that had popped up out of nowhere. He reminded him of Wang Han. Xiang Ning thought about it, then nodded. Looks like it's a livestream. He wasn’t sure if Fang Rou and the rest were watching it.

“Oh shit, he accepted the interview! Bro, you just got possessed by Wang Han!”

“Ask him to talk more about his personal life!”

“Looks like you just struck gold. You can finally stop being an independent journalist. Have you thought about which company you’ll go to?”

“What about Xiang Ning’s true story? Was the news from last time fake?”

“If it really was fake, why’d he do that?”

Comments were flying around, but Zhao Zhongxian ignored them all. His thought process was just different. “Teacher Xiang Ning… why do you always rush to the front?”

The comments immediately stopped appearing. The admin even thought that the server had crashed.

Zhao Zhongxian had asked a question that almost no one thought about. It was also a very good question that no one knew the answer to. Why did Xiang Ning always appear in the most dangerous places? No matter the time or place, he was always where he was needed the most.

Xiang Ning thought a bit, then said, “There’s reasons for that.”

“What reasons?” Zhao Zhongxian followed up with another question.

Xiang Ning smiled like a dork, revealing the innocent look a boy of his age should have. He scratched his head as he tried to hide his embarrassment. “Probably because I’m a selfish person. I feel a bit insecure not being in the front line protecting those I love at my back.”

How could someone so strong be that insecure?

“What’s the thing you treasured the most?”

“Home.” A simple answer. Everyone looked in the direction of the suburbs, toward the mine where the poor had to dig out spirit stones to survive.

They knew that there was a small house near the mine. It was Xiang Ning’s home. When he had just returned, his home was like a sacred site. Many people tried to crowd the place just to try their luck and catch a glimpse of him. If it weren’t for Fang Zhenyuan declaring that place a restricted area, people wouldn’t have stopped showing up. Even so, every time Xiang Ning woke up he would see many people setting up stores and selling their wares near his house. He was truly at a loss for words.

Someone extrapolated the path of the stampede and confirmed that, if the beasts had continued forward, they would have destroyed Xiang Ning’s house.

No one knew what to say. How could someone like him treasure something so much? Regardless of whether it was his items or his friends, he would go all out to protect them. No one knew how obsessed he was.

Only those who had befriended him knew how much he treasured them. He’d had to shed blood and tears just to obtain what he had today. How could he easily give them up?

“You… are too magnanimous. I’d feel very safe if I had a friend like you,” Zhao Zhongxian chuckled.

Xiang Ning shook his head. “I’m just a selfish person. The warriors that sacrificed their lives today are the true heroes. All of them had their own families and the things they valued, but they gave up their lives to protect them until only one man survived.

“But… this is their duty.”

“Do they have to give up their life for their duty? To protect the people that aren’t even related to them?” Xiang Ning’s words were a bit harsh, but it was the truth. People shouldn’t take the help others give for granted. “They’re the true heroes. Alright. Time to leave.”

The news of Xiang Ning slaying the ten mutants had reached the Seven Deadly Sins and they immediately ordered the rest of the mutants to retreat. With the arrival of the reinforcements, the stampede was temporarily suppressed, buying enough time for the reserve forces to retreat.

Only the Chaos was in a more compromising position near the outskirts of the second defensive perimeter. They had no choice but to send out some of the reserve forces to guard that area. Xiang Ning didn’t want to get beaten by Qi Jiuming and Fang Zhenyuan, so he decided to stay and guard the battleship.

“Xiang Ning, you shouldn’t be here.”

“I’m stronger than you. Why can’t I be here, but you can?”

Fang Hao was speechless. Xiang Ning was indeed already stronger than him and he showed no sign of stopping. With his speed, it was entirely plausible for him to become the youngest tier seven martial artist. That was why everyone was protecting him.

The boy was a prodigy like no one had ever seen and they needed him to grow stronger. This wasn’t a normal stampede, as the Seven Deadly Sins were involved. It was only because Xiang Ning bought enough time for reinforcements to arrive that the stampede was stymied.

It was speculated that the main force of the Seven Deadly Sins would arrive, including a tier seven martial artist. The entire area was destined to become a bloody battlefield. Could Xiang Ning survive?

Even so, was he afraid? He wasn’t. He had complete faith in his Refresh ability.
