Chapter 133 : A good job
Damien panted with exertion as he swung his sword at another beast man who sliced his claws at him. Forget about drawing energy from Claw; he felt like he would pass out. Throughout the entire training, he only learnt one thing, and that was that Wisteria was a very bad teacher!
She asked him to control his mana and feel the connection between him and Claw. According to her, since the contract had been formed, he shouldn't have any trouble. But she never once told him how he was supposed to control this connection.
The guards who found the task laborious soon started to enjoy themselves as they swung their claws and sent small attacks Damien's way. Though Damien was not as skilled as them, he was agile and quick on his feet. Thus, it gave them a chance to hone their attacking skills.
Earlier, they thought that Wistoria was trying to humiliate them by bringing Damien. Who did not know that the man had lost his beast core and did not have any skills? But it seemed like they had underestimated this man.
Even if he didn't have his beast core, he was quite a good fighter.
With everyone at the same level, they had to take constant breaks as they didn't have enough stamina to continue with their attacks. Damien had to crouch down and take multiple timeouts while trying his best to breathe in and out to recover his stamina.
Wistoria on the other hand looked at Damien. She had to accept that the man was much more skilled than she had thought; though he was just a doctor, his hands were agile and his feet were quick.
He didn't waste any moment and took a clean swipe at his opponent.
How was she supposed to know that Damien, who had worked as a resident doctor for years, was used to rushing in and out of the emergency ward? What was more, when he was saving the lives of his patients, he had to be clean and precise. If he was not skilled, how could he dare to pick the scalpel up?n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
For Damien, saving the lives of those who were dying was no different than fighting a battle against time. So how could he not be skilled?
Damien and the guards practised until they were sweating and tired. In the end, neither side won as Damien was too slippery for them to attack, and Damien couldn't bring even a single guard down as he was trying his best to protect himself.
However, this was still a really good training session. Damien felt his stamina get a bit better, while the beastmen also learnt a little bit about how to control their mana without losing control.
"You did a good job," said Wistoria as she walked over to Damien who was sitting on the ground with his hand on his knee. He raised his head and looked at her before saying,
"Is this your way to say that I was totally shitty?"
"No, I was honestly praising you just now," Wistoria told him. "I think you did not notice it just now. But your speed and attack speed have gotten better. Though you still cannot find the core connection of the beast contract, you are instinctively using it as well."
Damien was stunned. He looked back at his performance and realised that he indeed performed better than before.
"This—"
"This is the authority of the king," Wistoria explained with a hint of pride in her voice. "You might no longer be as powerful as you were before, but you are still the heir to the throne."
"Beasts and beastmen are obliged to obey you."
She then glanced at the man who was staring at her with a stunned expression and arched a brow. "Why are you looking at me like that? Did you never think of the possibility that you might be the right heir and Emiliano had taken over your rightful place?"
Honestly, he had never once considered such a thing. He only wanted to become strong enough to protect himself and his new family while saving as many lives as possible.
As for ruling and commanding the beastmen, did he even have the power to do so?
Seeing that he was not speaking, Wistoria was disappointed, but she did not show it on her face. No matter what, this was Damien's decision to make. Whether he wants to take the throne or continue living like this, she has no right to make the decision for him.
"Are you hungry?" she asked.
Damien raised his head and nodded before replying, "A little." He was grateful that she was not waiting for an answer. He
The two of them didn't go to the dining area; instead, Wistoria took him to a small restaurant.
"What do you want to eat?" Wistoria asked as she sat down.
"I am fine with anything," Damien replied.
[Master, don't forget my meat!]
Claw flew around Damien's head, causing Dan to look at him. Though the AI system was smiling, which was his default expression, Damien had a feeling that there was something really wrong with Dan.
"Are you fine with drinking?" Wistoria asked as she raised her hand and called for a server to take their orders.
"I think I should be alright." Damien hoped that this body of his was used to drinking and was not someone who got knocked out in just one shot.
Soon, the drinks and the dishes that they ordered were served. As the restaurant was filled with all sorts of beastmen, no one paid attention to the giant pile of mice meat on the table from which an Iron Claw Eagle was eating.
"How come you never told me how to control the core connection?" Damien asked as he raised the flask and drank through it.
"It's not that simple." Wistoria took a bite of her meal and frowned before stating, "Only the members of the royal family know how to find the link of the core connection. As for the rest of us, we can only play by the trial and error method."
