Volume 5 Chapter 85: It Wasn’t Demons

Hearing the door opening again, "No more visit-"

"It's me," Keith was the one who entered the room. His expression brightened, "What's up, Keith?"

"I brought you some food," Keith raised a lunchbox up.

Herrick's eyes turned crazy, "I was missing that! Gimme!"

"Pff." Keith chuckled as he handed the lunchbox over. The beastman didn't hesitate as he went to town on the food. As he did, Keith's expression turned strange.

"Are they starving you here?" The way he ate was like he was starved for days. He was a rabid beast.

"No. I just missed the food of the island." Herrick couldn't stand the food given here.

"They gave me stale bread and some soup! And the fruit was horrible." The food was something he couldn't take. It was meant only for health and nothing more!

"Ah, speaking of fruit, here." Keith summoned a basket full of fruit. It was filled with different types.

"Woah! What's with the fruits?!"

"A get-well gift from Fira and the dorm mothers." When Fira heard about Herrick being injured, she was worried. The three couldn't come, so they made a gift basket full of fruits for Keith to bring.

"I see," Herrick's expression softened, "Tell them thanks."

"Gotcha." Keith looked around, "So, the only thing you have to do is rest?"

"Nope. I watch over Little Herc!" Herrick smiled as he looked at the plant. That was the only thing he was doing to pass the time.

"I see." There was a moment of silence before Herrick warned, "Keith, you need to be careful."

"...I know." Even without Herrick saying anything, Keith understood he had to be careful.

"No, I meant you need to be careful of who's pulling the strings."

"..."

"What Melor said was wrong. It wasn't a group of demons who attacked us. It was a group of elves." That was something Herrick knew for sure.

"..."

"They had a scent that only elves had." One whiff and Herrick realized it.

"Did you tell anyone about this?"

"You're the first person I told. I can't just say that it was elves." Herrick couldn't do that. He didn't have enough information. And it would open a whole can of worms. The beastmen would probably go crazy if he did.

"I'm the first person. However, there might be others this time around." Herrick sighed. There was no way he was the only victim.

"And you need to be more careful. I think you will be the next target."

"..."

"Those other times aren't going to compare to this."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Keith finally spoke up.

"Quit playing dumb. I know you were attacked by a group," Herrick pointed at his nose, "Remember, I'm a beastman. I have a sensitive nose." He remembered Keith returning home that day, and he could smell blood on his body.

However, Herrick chose not to say anything. Since Keith didn't say anything and acted fine and dandy in front of the rest, he kept quiet.

"..." Keith went silent again.

"Also, Melor saw the situation of your cart getting attacked."

"..." Keith grabbed his head, "There was that." He completely forgot. Melor was there when those elves tried to destroy his cart. He witnessed the entire situation!

"And this is what I get for messing around too much," Herrick sighed.

"What do you mean?"

"The people who ambushed us were the ones I beat to a pulp."

"?!"

That was something Herrick had recognized. When Herrick was in eye contact with those guys, he realized he had met them before. It was the same ones who talked down to him. He had beat them up in anger.

"This is retribution, I suppose."

"When have you ever been the type to be regretful?" Keith joked.

"Shut it," Herrick's expression turned red.

"Alright, you should rest up now." Keith sighed as he left the room.

"Kay." Herrick smiled as he took a fruit from the basket.
