Volume 5 Chapter 72: Game Of Chess

"What?! Keith survived?!" Iston was visibly shocked now. This was something he did not expect. The assassin nodded, "Our men had been taken out."

"Yes, I know this. However, you were all taken out?" He literally sent more than 40 people after him! There was some expectation of some being defeated, but it was to take down Keith.

Iston's plan was to have their group split into multiple groups. That way, Keith's backer would be spread thin, giving the rest a chance to go for the kill.

Yet, only two of them returned? How could they fail so miserably?!

"The backer he had was powerful," The assassin stated.

"I see," Iston groaned, "You may leave."

"Understood, Prince." The assassin quickly disappeared. His backer is a blizzard owl. No wonder he was so confident. It was known that Keith's father had a blizzard owl as his familiar. However, Keith had one now. That could only be one thing; the Marquis had given it to him.

However, a blizzard owl isn't enough. Iston smirked. He could work around this. What he was more worried about was Alfia. Is he the reason why she is getting stronger? That was something he was concerned with.

Alfia had a chance to grab the throne. Despite the fewer supporters she had, she possessed remarkable talent. However, she didn't seem to realize it.

That talent was a threat.

...

"Keith, you know what I'm going to say, right?" Diana's eyes narrowed as she stared at Keith. Keith scratched his head,

"Can I say no?"

"Why didn't you summon me?!" Diana frowned. She wanted to appear when she sensed something was wrong. However, Keith quickly told her not to.

"I made a-Ow! Professor Aidiun, can you not wrap the bandages like that?" Keith looked at Aidiun.

"You need it tightened," Aidiun shook his head as he continued to wrap him up. Luckily, most of the wounds were pretty light. The only one that wasn't was the back.

"Keith," Don't try to change the subject. That was what Diana's eyes said.

"I didn't want to reveal my cards," Keith answered calmly.

"Eh?"

"Nephele, you said these people had been attacking me these last few days. And you guys were the ones who stopped it, right?"

"Yep. Those guys were pretty relentless." Nephele nodded. Sometimes, it got really close to Keith finding out about it.

"That could only mean a few things. One, the person is dead set on wanting to ruin me. And two, those attacks were to gauge my battle strength."

"Eh?"

"Today's attack made me sure that it's both of them. Those previous attacks were to figure out how many people were protecting me. That was why they sent so many people after me today." They were used as decoys while the main troops attacked him.

"That's why I didn't want to summon you. If I did, the person would know about me having a great spirit." There were some who escaped. They were probably telling the mastermind about Aria.

"Good job staying out of sight, Nephele." It was luck that Nephele didn't show herself.

"Yay!"

"What are you planning to do now?" Aidiun questioned. Since he was attacked, Keith was definitely going to fight back.

"It's a waiting game between him and me," Keith groaned. The other person is probably waiting for a response from me. A game of chess. The person had given up a pawn to take his bishop.

Now, his opponent was waiting for his move.

"I'll let it go," Keith smirked.

"Eh?"

"Right now, the person probably thinks he has a good gauge of my abilities. However, he doesn't know about Diana and Nephele." He had two big cards in his hand.

"I want to see what this person is going to do next. He might reveal himself," Keith was moving a pawn for now.

"..." The three adults stared at one another. They have seen many sides of Keith. His excitement, sadness, crazziness, and anger. This one was new.

His cunning side.
