The Blue Eyes

Chapter 186 - PEOPLE FROM THE ARMY?

The shot hit straight to the car, and it caused an explosion. The red flame and dark smoke surrounded the silver car, and the car shook heavily, shocking the people inside the four-wheeled vehicle.

But miraculously, the people inside the car were safe.

The fire went out, and the smoke dissipated little by little.

Both Casper and Jack were still in shock and couldn't say anything after the explosion. Their eyes widened but seemed blank, and they looked like zombies.

"You don't have to worry," Kris said with a casual grin. "This car is bulletproof and fireproof, so the guns won't do us any harm."

"Why didn't you tell us about that beforehand, Kris? I was scared to death!" Jack immediately snapped at the burly man.

Kris just chuckled, but he didn't respond anymore. He glanced at Casper for a moment and found the soldier's body trembled a little.

"You're a soldier, but you get scared very easily," commented the caramel-haired man while shaking his head.

Casper finally turned to him and glared at him. "I'm just a novice soldier, and the experience just now was the scariest experience of my life!"

Even though the soldier just stabbed him with a death glare, Kris wasn't frightened and didn't bother to rebuke him. Instead, he once again looked back and found that the black sedan was still following them.

They were still in Chiliad, and the streets of the small district were quite deserted. That was why the car that was following was so daring to shoot them with the dangerous weapon earlier.

"Let's go back to Nozheic, Jack."

Jack looked shocked as he glanced at Kris through the rearview mirror. "What?" He questioned Kris's decision. "But we haven't even started our investigation yet!"

Right after Jack finished arguing, they could hear another shot coming from the car behind him.

"Shit!" Kris couldn't stop his cursing. "They want to kill us, but you still want to continue with the investigation?"

Jack gulped after hearing how Kris had scolded him, and without saying anything, he pressed the gas pedal further to increase the car's speed.

The black car behind them was speeding as well, and not only that, but the man inside the car continued shooting their car with a gun.

"Avoid the bullets, Jack! They are aiming at the car's tires!"

Jack tried hard to dodge the bullets. He kept turning the steering wheel clockwise and counterclockwise to avoid the hail of bullets.

"It's so damn hard!" Jack spoke again while gritting his teeth. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as if his life depended on the wheel.

Kris kept turning his head to the back as he observed the situation.

"Don't let the bullets hit the tires, Jack! We could have a car crash if they hit our tires! Kevin will kill me if that happens!"

"You still think about your boyfriend in this dangerous situation?"

Kris and Jack were shouting at each other, and Casper could only stare at them silently.

Kris noticed the innocent gaze, and he immediately asked the boy, "Hey, Kid. Don't you have any weapons with you?"

Casper winced a little when he heard the unexpected question, but then he quickly shook his head. "I don't bring any weapons with me!" He answered in a panic.

Kris groaned in frustration. Casper was a soldier, but he was useless now!

They could only rely on Jack's driving skills now, and Jack panicked. Beads of sweat the size of corn began to coat his smooth forehead. His hands quickly moved the car to dodge the bullets.

The car sped along the empty street, but after Jack made the turn to the left, the road was no longer empty. It turned out they had arrived at the urban area in Chilad, and the area was quite crowded.

Kris looked back once more and could see the black car gradually shrinking before it was out of sight. The tan-skinned man was finally able to heave a sigh of relief.

"As expected, they don't dare to approach us in a crowded place."

Both Jack and Casper followed suit after they heard Kris's words. They finally could breathe normally again.

Jack slowed down his car before he used his left hand to wipe the sweat off his forehead. He suddenly felt like a human with adrenaline and suspense.

"Who the hell are those people?" Jack couldn't stop himself from asking the question.

"They must be the people related to the buried valley. They found out that we were investigating them, so they wanted to catch us."

Jack fell silent after he heard Kris's explanation. They just escaped a dangerous situation, and even their bodies were still trembling now.

"But, how come they found out that we were investigating the buried valley?" Jack asked again as he glanced at Kris through the rearview mirror.

Kris didn't immediately answer as he took a glance at the man sitting beside him.

Casper, who noticed Kris's gaze, instantly become panicked and hastily waved his hands. "It's not me! I didn't tell anyone that we were investigating the buried valley. I swear!"

Kris frowned as he scrutinized Casper's expression, but then he looked away before he responded, "I know it's not you. I trust you."

Casper sighed in relief when he heard Kris's statement.

The atmosphere inside the car turned silent afterward. The three passengers were busy with their thought and were no longer speaking with each other.

The cold atmosphere was only be broken by Jack's statement. "They were after us because we were investigating the buried valley. That means, the buried valley is indeed an important site, right?

Kris simply nodded at Jack's question. "You are right. Let's discuss the matter later when we arrive at Nozheic," he replied to the question.

Jack nodded, but when he caught a glimpse of Casper from the rearview mirror, he once again frowned before he asked, "What's wrong, Cas? Do you want to say something?"

The young soldier jolted a little when he heard Jack's question. He returned Jack's gaze through the rearview mirror before answering, "I'm just curious about something."

The young soldier looked hesitant, and the two men noticed the hesitation.

Kris peeked at the poor soldier before he said, "Just speak up, dude. It's not like we will kill you if you speak up."

Casper smiled awkwardly at Kris, then he decided to voice out his curiosity.

"How could you know that they were about to go after us earlier, Sir? You even managed to snatch me away from my car in a short time."

Jack mumbled a soft "Ah" after hearing Casper's question. He was also curious about Kris' accurate actions earlier.

Kris just instructed him without telling him the situation further, and Jack was curious as well. Thankfully, he and Jack were quite a in sync that they could escape the danger safe and sound.

"I didn't see the car when we arrived at the tavern, but when we were about to leave the tavern, I immediately noticed the car's existence. It was an expensive car that the villagers couldn't possibly own, and I also noticed how the owner intentionally blocked the license number with a duck type. I knew right away that they were dangerous people."

Kris has indeed had a sensitive sense, and both Casper and Jack admired the ability so much.

"Thank you so much for saving me earlier, Sir. I can't imagine what could happen to me if you didn't save me."

Casper was so sincere when he voiced out his apology. The young soldier even stared at the tan-skinned man with his pair of eyes that were full of stars.

Jack noticed how the soldier fanboying over Kris, and he decided to butt in, "You are the soldier here, but you couldn't notice something like that, Cas. Now you even left your car in Chilad."

Casper huffed in disappointment when he heard Jack's mock. "I'm just a newbie, Jack. And I have to say that my ability is not that good. That's why our leaders only assigned me as a driver in the last war. Now I even lost my car."

Jack was stunned when he heard the weak statement. He once again glimpsed at the soldier through the rearview mirror and noticed how the boy lowered his head sadly.

The tattooed man sighed before he said, "We can assign people to pick up your car." He tried to comfort the younger man. "Those people must recognize you as well, Cas. Don't you think it will be dangerous for you?"

Casper blinked innocently at the driver. It seemed that he just realized his position now.

"You're right, Jack," the young soldier replied. "But I think you don't have to worry about me. I'm under the army now, so those people won't dare to touch me."

Jack nodded his head casually, but the reaction was different from Kris's. The tan-skinned man turned to the soldier before he asked, "What if the people earlier are from the army?"
